I have a question.. Was there public input or discussion in ANY of the towns that voted? Or is this another case of rogue politics? Does the "Sunshine Law" apply here?

Update to post:

I checked & Alcoa & Maryville did in fact have open meetings.. Looks like the people in these towns have some work to do on local government. The Constitution should be respected.. Pre-existing law or not, it was unconstitutional. It needs to be removed.

Maryville City Council didn't post their Aug. 4th agenda until 945a Aug. 4th. I checked the night before and there was an August agenda; however, the link brought up Sept. 2008's agenda. Go figure. I know a guy that did attend the Maryville City Council meeting on Aug 4th and he said there was hardly anyone there and no one spoke about anything. I have been to BC Commission meetings and I can guarantee you that there will be lots of people speaking during the Public Input on items ON and OFF the agenda. Click on the link below to watch a live stream of the meeting tonight. It starts at 7pm EST.

Dan, I've spoken with the commissioners in my district and one says she will vote to OPT OUT b/c she doesn't like the idea of guns being carried around little people. The other commissioner thinks the 2nd Amendment is outdated and should be done away with. Now, that is the opinions of 2 out of the 21 commissioners here in Blount County so I don't know what the other 19 think but it seems moot now due to BC's lawyer's interpretation of the OPT-OUT bill passed by the State.

Here's the agenda for tonite. Page 20 is where you'll find the resolution, letter from Blount County Attorney and other supporting documentation.

Well the kook who says the second amendment is outdated is actually not fit for duty, since part of her swoarn duty is to uphold (at least) the State Constitution, not just the parts SHE likes. You should remind her that the Tennessee STATE consititution Article 1, Section 26, also upholds the rights of citizens to bear arms. That puts her in conflict with both the Federal & State constitutions, as well as a large number of her constituants.

It's going to be very important that we donate to pro gun legislators, & make sure that we keep a Republican/Conservative majority in the House/Senate in Tennessee. But additionally, people on the most basic municiple levels need to see that people are watching, & will not tolerate them trampling on our Bill of Rights.

A passing grade on a test of basic knowledge of Tennessee History should be a requirement for any person to run for public office in TN. Familiarity with the Tennessee Constitution should be a mainstay of that course, and should be involved in 25 of the 100 questions on the Test, along with 25 on the U.S. Constitution. Perhaps we could get a Representative to put that idea forward in the next session of the Legislature?

It may just be me or wishful thinking, but it seems to me to say, a majority vote by each of the bodies is required. All affected bodies must vote individually. That if 2 voted to opt out and a third did not then the new law would be in effect.

It says "a resolution adopted by a majority vote by [b]all affected legislative bodies[b] voting individually"

not, a resolution adopted by a majority of the affected legislative bodies.
Is it just me.
