Tennessean article..TN law lets thugs pack heat..

In case you haven't already read this in todays Tennessean...link below..

The Dept. of Safety & others in the criminal pipeline are killing us with these loopholes. I have several good friends
in the THP, and all good officers, but the brass are still failing in their task. Bredesen was supposedly getting this
mess with the D.of Safety cleaned up, but things keep cropping up on a regular basis.
Possibly the permits should be put into the TBIs' hands. They do the background checks. With additional personnel
perhaps they could do a better job with this.
Your thoughts?

I don't like the idea of a few people I know carrying because of their past. Things getting plea bargained and getting by that way. But that is our judicial system. Again innocent until proven guilty. What you plead to may be a much lesser charge.

True, the DoS isn't the only one at fault, the courts are just as much to blame. I see it all the time. That's where
I work. Plea bargaining is a big factor as well. But unfortunately, that's part of the legal system.
I'm sure we've all ran across someone who really didn't need to be carrying a gun, but if it's legal, its legal.
We really don't need this kind of publicity, and the Tennessean is going to make sure we get it.

I wonder how many people like me have sent letters in and they were never published? I know I have sent 4 that never saw print and am sure others who are pro-gun have sent them in to.

This is one of the reasons I keep emphasizing that we need to throw money at this just like left wing groups do. Newspapers today are just leftist fronts by & large, & they are getting away with controlling the information. We need to start doing public service announcements, filing lawsuits, & proving the leftist media wrong through community education. They are lying to the people, & they are succeeding in many cases, because they are out funding us. It's time we make protecting our rights part of out monthly family budget..

Dan I understand what you are saying. I also agree we need to find a way to fund the lawsuits and PSAs, take ads in the leftist newspapers. But right now there are many people that this economy has seriously hurt. Many people can't afford to budget a few dollars for our cause. I am trying to come up with the funds to be a paid member of the TFA. My wife has been unemployed for over a year now. So it is hard to budget money for non necessities. Let's see do I buy food or pay the $45 dollars for the family pllan to TFA? I vote for the food. I want one as much as I do the other. But priorities say the rest of the family has to eat before I do. I am not saying you're wrong in this fight. But there are many that don't have the funds available. Lack of funds is why I have stepped up and started doing letter writing, emails and phone calls.

Hey lilred.. No listen bro, I totally understand that.. & those people should not feel guilty about NOT giving more. You are right about those priorities. I do however know that there's a good chance some of us could be cutting out a few cans of coke or whatever, & funneling the money we save into protecting our rights. That's all I'm saying.. For instance with me, I gave up Starbucks almost completely, so that I could use the money I was wasting there, to funnel to the TFA. I'm by no means saying that's the right thing for everyone to do, I'm just encouraging people to do everything they can. If you can't, you can't & nobody should feel bad if they know that this isn't the right time to put that in their budget.. When I said adding it to your family budget, that's assuming you have a budget that is stable at the time you decide to do it. I've had times when I couldn't do what I'm doing now financially, so I totally understand. I'm just stating a fact, if we don't (as a whole) fight back with some $$$, we're going to lose..

Writing letters helps sometimes, but with the arrogance of Politicians today, they poll everything. They don't care if it's right or wrong, & people writing letters doesn't do as much to convince them, as seeing ads in the newspaper, or billboards saying: "so & so, is violating YOUR rights, vote for this guy instead... Know what I mean? Many of them only care about how it's polling, not whether or not it's constitutional or moral.

Dan I totally agree with you. If we don't do anything then we are going to lose it all. You are right about the letter writing and phone calls. They only care about what gets them re-elected or not. I will do everything I can to help in anyway I can.
