Restaurant Sign Posting

I need some clarification please. The new restaurant carry bill veto has been over-ridden. Our city council seems to be pushing to have establishments post their no guns signs. In the past, stores (like ABC Hardware, for example), could post a sign prohibiting firearms. But, you were not in violation of the law if you carried in the establishment. You could be asked to leave if found to be carrying. Is this not still true with the new restaurant carry? Are you breaking the "law" by carrying in a restaurant with the proper sign or just their individual prohibition? I hope this makes some sense. Thanks.

Under TCA 39-17-1359, if a property is PROPERLY posted in compliance with the provision of that statute, a violation of the posting could be charged as a class B misdemeanor which is usually a $500 fine plus the loss of the firearm, court costs, etc.

If the property is not properly posted, the property own can ask you to leave and if you refuse it constitutes criminal trespass.

I can tell I will be getting a wallet size version of the AG ruling on posting and keeping it in my wallet.

While what John has posted is 100% correct, that doesn't mean Nashville MPD won't have orders to "enforce" any type of posting, whether it meets requirements under the law or not. It's my understanding that what exactly is or isn't a proper posting in TN has not yet been tested in court, John is that correct?

Do you believe 39-17-1314 prohibits the metro council from passing an ordinance to require businesses to post? Or do they have a legal leg to stand on?
