Police chiefs invited by Bredesen?

Postby backwoodsman » Tue Jun 02, 2009 9:20 pm

I wrote everyone on metro council and heard back from only one ,over the phone, who happens to be a TFA member, he said it was brought up and they passed it off as bredesen invited them therefore it was ordered and part of their duty,, when asked if that was a fact, and was said no one would hold that line, that it was a fact, but there's an awful lot of side stepping, i also wrote karl dean the mayor of nashville, since serpas was there,, his office said it wasnt in their scope in essence and told me to call the office of the chief, there is more side stepping and buck passing going on here than an irreputable flea market,, i smell multiple rats,, and one big one by the name of bredesen, here we go an elitist class of people better than common citizens,

Some public officials will "stand tall" until called on their grand-standing, then scurry like cockroaches when a light is turned on in the kitchen. Nothing new, I'm afraid, but still annoying, if not infuriating.

I was at an event several years ago where the "Big Enchilada" of the organization (private, not public) was in attendance at a Fourth of July fireworks display. Something went wrong, and the fireworks started going off from the wagon. Luckily, no one was hurt. In the moment, we did not know that, however. Several people (young men included) who were working the event ran toward the wagon as the fireworks were blowing up, heading into danger to see if anyone were injured. Where was the "Big Enchilada?" Hauling a** to the rear and safety.

Oh, by the way, his annual salary was over seventy-five times mine. Like I said...cockroaches.

I still think we demand the District Attorney look at it with charges in mind.

well no one is owning up to anything ,but if bredesen did order them there or politely invite them there for support, it's still in violation, while in uniform i would think, if bredesen did it ,he had police there neglecting their duties while lobbying for him either way there is neglect of duty and abuse of powers, no one is above the law, including the law!

I have sent 2 emails to Dean's office asking for information. I received a reply to the first one but it was nothing more than a "go see the chief" reply. I have not received a reply to the 2nd inquiry. I copied each of these to my council representative but have not heard from her at this point.

Apparently their all afraid of what their future may be if they are the whistle blowers, I didn't call the chiefs office ,I think I know the answer but maybe I should have, and asked them if they minded if i taped the conversation. lots of running and hiding going on here

TN does not require disclosure that a conversation, including a phone call, is being recorded as long as at least one person to the conversation knows its being recorded.

Now, here is another thing to take a look at.

Most of this is actually conducted through the Tennessee Chiefs of Police Association. Its a Tennessee corporation. It may - may be a 501(c)(3). If it is, the level of lobbying it is doing may exceed federal limits and expose the organization to fines and possible loss of (c)(3) status.

Another issue to look into is that its quite unlikely that these chiefs are paying their membership fees from personal funds. If they are not but are instead using tax dollars then I think we need to look and see if there are state laws regarding whether and to what extent tax dollars that are used as private organizational dues can be used to subsidize lobbying programs by the organization.

As a tax payer, I would not be real happy with tax dollars being used by an public official to pay optional organizational dues so that the organization can hire a former legislative aid as its executive director to lobby the legislature, the governor and the administration against tax payers. It just does not sound right.

TFA members and NRA members across the state need to contact the Sheriff and compliment and thank him for making this public declaration of support for the Tennessee General Assembly and our rights.
