Appears that he is trying to intentionally inflict emotional distress in the HCP public with his actions. Searching to find a loophole to prevent those licensed from availing themselves of constitutionally guaranteed rights, even after the Legislature has enacted a Law to verify and uphold this rights, would seem to be intentional to me, and I am for dang sure emotionally distressed by this!

So basicly they are going to try to suspend the beer permit if they dont properly post against gun owners?

Since the AG has determined that beer isn't alcohol in Tennessee this should never have been a problem for HCP holders right? :P

I would think that this would be a form of blackmail or coercion.

FYI, here is the link to the list of Nashville Council Members, included are phone numbers and email addresses. If you live inside Davidson County you should at least email and/or call all the at large members and any members who cover areas where you live, work, and dine out. Although comments to all wouldn't hurt either.

If you live outside Davidson County, I would encourage you to call/write as well, explain to them professionally how much business they will loose by making it illegal for a HCP to carry there.

Obviously please keep your calls and emails civil.

The statute on preemption appears to leave no room for any regulation of firearms, this seems to me like a regulation. A bit of a sideways approach, but it clearly violates the spirit, and letter of the law.

However, the courts have not been friendly to us. Legal may not matter.

I can only tell you what Charlie Tygard said, he is ready to introduce this ordinance after only receiving calls from "half a dozen" business owners. Now, who knows if 1,000 calls in support will change his mind or not, but it can't hurt.

Here is a copy of the ordinance that was filed today in Metro to close restaurants that have beer licenses unless they post no firearms allowed.

John,

You've probably already noticed this but I thought I'd point it out...

First this would ban a lot more than HCP Holders in these establishments.

1. It appears to remove the right of an owner to carry inside the business for their own protection. I believe that has been allowed under the law for decades with again little to no abuse by owners and their employees.

2. It appears as currently worded this would prevent armed deposit pickup from companies such as brinks security coming to get deposits.

3. It appears to remove the ability for the restaurant owner to hire off duty officers to provide security for their establishments (since many departments require officers to always be armed in public). Also it seems to ban any form of legal on-site armed security as well.

4. It seems to clearly try to regulate possession of a firearm in these businesses which seems on it's face to violate 39-17-1314.

Those are just some of the things I noticed.
