Fair enough, the restaurant definition is an acceptable alternative to the House version. Not liked, but acceptable. Whatever you decide, I will tell my Senator to do.

It is on the calender for the 16th. John, what is your call, accept the restaurant definition, or push for a perfectly clean and good bill, where the only restriction is no drinking?

I lean towards the clean bill, but will accept the definition if needed. I will contact my Senator today, and urge him to be as pro as he can. Later, I will tell House Reps to back the Senate version.

What is that process called anyway? Do I just tell my Rep to accept the Senate version? (I don't mean conference, the step before that.)

Right, adopt.

Do we want to push the Senate to clean up the amended bill?

I think, from my hours in the legislature today, you are going to see a restaurant bill with no curfew but with the age restriction. Of course, it could all change tomorrow....

I just told my senator to oppose anything other than a no drinking while carrying provision.

How long would it take before the House would vote on adopting? Should I tell them to support the Senate version now, or after it passes tomorrow?

John,

Who is it that is forcing the age restriction on us?

Tough question to answer. I am hearing it put as "giving the House something...."

SB1127 / HB0962 passes the Senate on a vote of 26-7 without the House restrictions. Senators voting NO on restaurant bill were Berke, Burks, Harper, Haynes, Henry, Kyle and Marrerro.

http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInf ... ber=SB1127

The debate starts in the Senate video at 54:00 minutes

The effect of this change is to send the bill back to the House for further action which may include adoption, rejection, further amendment and/or sending it to a conference committee.

And we simply want the House to adopt, correct?

Or did the Senate just adopt the House version? According to the state website, it says the SB went to the dead bill file.

Senate adopted first and then amended.

We want the house to adopt the Senate amendment.

Letters sent.

And what was the deal with Harwell? Should we start flooding her with letters?

I live in Rep. Harwell's district, and finally after a dozen or more calls I finally got in touch with her. I spoke with her for about 5 minutes or so today and it appears she's not going to vote for the bill... She kept talking about letters she received from the TRA (Tennessee Restaurant Assoc) against the bill, and a survey she sent out (funny we didn't receive it) that she claimed was 72% against Restaurant carry... She claims to be very pro-2A rights, even stating that requiring a license to carry is unconstitutional in her mind. But because of her feelings about drinking and handguns she's unwilling to support the bill.

She did promise to vote against any further amendments, to keep it 'clean' and expects the bill to pass without the curfew in place. My wife and I both support Harwell in the last election, to say the least we feel very let down.

With that in mind, perhaps should Harwell start receiving opponents in the future we should consider supporting them, and being very specific as to our distrust of her.

Representative Todd opposes Senate version

Postby Tim Nunan » Fri Apr 17, 2009 4:51 pm

"Rep. Curry Todd, the House sponsor, says he will oppose the Senate version without the curfew, which means the bill probably is headed for a conference committee to try to reconcile differences."
http://blogs.nashvillescene.com/pitw/20 ... rs_bil.php

Okay, since Todd is suppose to be a friend of gun owners why would he oppose this? I'm guessing even if a few die hard anti's change their votes I think it would still pass the House, which becomes harder if the sponsor won't back it.
