Bout time. Maybe Cochran can take the seat back finally. Why did he ever lose it in the first place?

Looking back after a small amount of reflection, I think the TN GOP leadership ought NOT boot Williams right now, they should wait until AFTER the spring session next year and then back Cochran en masse. If he decides to stay a Republican, we all may have better results in dealing with him than if he is summarily tossed, while retaining such powers as he will have as a Speaker. While not a decent solution, he will at least hopefully be somewhat influencable. What do you guys think?

On another note, any idea what the legislative calender will be, and who will get what committees? We can tell from the latter what our chances of getting pro-2A legislation is.

Won't this cause him to switch party affiliations? I mean, what's he got to lose at this point? And what would that do, really?

Republicans control the house, but what does that mean now?

Wait and see is what effective snipers do. Those who run into the enemies camp with guns blazing may look good on TV but its seldom that effective unless you have a huge numerical advantage and an advantage of only 1 liar is no advantage at all.

John,

Are you hinting that all might not be lost for this session?

Also, when will committees be posted/schedules for the time to be spent in Nashville up?

Its too early to tell if all is lost. We don't know what the session will bring at this point because there are too many unknowns such as the committee assignments. We have said for years that if we get the bills to the floor then we have the votes. That is still true. The question is will Naifeh, Williams and/or their shadow operatives continue to be in control and kill these bills.

For example, many Democrats may be more inclined to pass 2nd Amendment laws now that they have lost 4 seats in part due, at least in part, to the fact that the Democrat controlled House has been clearly responsible for killing these bills over the last several years. They may think that if we are more "pro 2nd Amendment" we might pick a few of those back up (depending of course on whether Kent Williams crosses over formally).

It appears from news reports that Naifeh will be named "Speaker Emeritus" and be given special responsibilities. So, he will still be with us, and probably running things much as before, IMO.

I agree with John and think it would be best to leave Williams alone for now. There is plenty of time before the 2010 election to find someone to replace him.
