SC TFA Meeting After Action Report

Postby Pat McGarrity » Sat Jan 19, 2008 8:42 pm

TFA Meeting 1-17-08: We had a great discussion and filled up the classroom. There were some people attending because they heard my interview on the Mike Fleming Radio Program and we appreciate Mike's support. He will be our guest again this year. Thanks as always to our friends at Range USA.

We set some short and long term goals.

2008 Goals:

1. Get our restaurant bill passed.
2. Fix the Castle Doctrine law. It was one step forward and two steps backwards.
3. Pass a guns in cars bill, where employers discriminate against armed employees. There should be a way to respect the rights of both employers and employees. This subject is near and dear to FedEx aircraft technician, Sam Cooper.
4. Quickly get information to gun owners state wide on the gun rights positions of the presidential candidates in the primaries. Thanks to Kenny Crenshaw for this important subject.
5. Get a list of businesses that discriminate against armed customers, so we can make informed spending choices.
6. Link handgunlaw.us to TFA site to give us current reciprocity and other information. Thanks to Mike Stansbury for that.

Long Term Goal: Implement a second level TFA membership with some type of pre-paid legal service with regional, gun-law qualified attorneys and a number to call should a member be forced to defend themselves. We are looking at this and there is much research yet to be done. Kenny Crenshaw presented this and I hope everyone will get behind it. If done right, every carry class in the state would recommend it and would be the catalyst to propel TFA to the next level.

Vince Hughes spoke about his very good idea of a state reaction of amending the Tennessee Constitution to expand the definition of our state militia, if the U.S. Supreme Court rules incorrectly in the upcoming D.C. Gun Ban Case. As usual, Jim Williams knew the Tennessee Annotated better than most attorneys and had a copy with him.

See you next time!
