O'Reilly - There he goes again...

As President Reagan said when debating the second worse U.S. president, Jimmy Carter; "There he goes again!"

"Misinformation Double Down

Mr. O’Reilly,

Tuesday, you doubled down on your mistaken statements from Monday. It’s "60,000" rounds instead of the actual 6,000 rounds James Holmes purchased, anyone can buy "machine guns" at gun shows unreported, etc. Congressman Chaffetz is correct. Respectfully sir, you are grossly misinformed.

Again, here are the facts:

1. A "Heavy Weapon" refers to a crew served weapon, a mortar, heavy belt fed machine gun, cannon, etc. A semi-automatic rifle is not defined as a heavy weapon. (BTW, Holmes did not use an AK-47)

2. Since 1998, every firearm sold by every licensed gun dealer is already reported to the FBI through their National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS.

3. Rocket launchers ("bazookas") are not available to the public and machine guns have been very heavily regulated by BATF since 1934.

A Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) report on "Firearms Use by Offenders" found that fewer than 1% of U.S. "crime guns" came from gun shows. Anti-gun advocates want to end all private sales, including those at gun shows.

One change in the laws/regulations we could agree on is that BATF only states that "occasional sales" do not require a Federal Firearms License (dealer license). The disadvantage of that ambiguity is that it allows the BATF to prosecute anyone they may dislike (this could be abused for political purposes by someone like Holder), while giving a pass to others (political officials, movie stars, etc). Their policy should be to define that it is lawful to sell up to X number of guns in X day period.

Constructively,
