Restaurant Carry Bill to be heard Tuesday, 3/23!!

Postby dwaldrip » Sat Mar 20, 2004 7:25 pm

Out of the clear blue, the Restaurant carry bill, HB1710, is on the calendar next week for the House Judiciary Constitutional Protections Subcommittee. This bill will be heard Tuesday, 3/23, at noon.

If this bill is important to you, and MANY of you say that it is, then you need to contact the members of the Subcommittee and urge them to pass it out of Subcommittee. Put it this way, your window of opportunity begins Monday morning at 8. Make the calls and send emails. This is your Super Bowl. Get the heck on the field.

All legislators may be reached by telephone at 1-800-449-8366.- then enter the last 5 digits of their office number.

The members of the House Judiciary Constitutional Protections Subcommittee are as follows:

Representative, District, Phone, Email
Briley , Rob D-52 741-2184 rep.rob.briley@legislature.state.tn.us
Brooks , Henri E. D-92 741-5625 rep.henri.brooks@legislature.state.tn.us
Cochran , Jerome R-4 741-7450 rep.jerome.cochran@legislature.state.tn.us
Coleman , Kent D-49 741-6829 rep.kent.coleman@legislature.state.tn.us
McMillan , Kim A. D-67 741-2043 rep.kim.mcmillan@legislature.state.tn.us
Newton , J. Chris R-22 741-2371 rep.chris.newton@legislature.state.tn.us
Stanley , Paul R-96 741-3036 rep.paul.stanley@legislature.state.tn.us

You may give a pass to TFA member Rep. Paul Stanley. He knows our feelings and supports us.

Send this on to your friends. Many thanks to Robbie Robinson, the area IDPA Coordinator, who has ALREADY sent a notice out to his IDPA list.

Go for it.

This bill was deferred until this coming Tuesday, March 30th.

Don't know the reason why, but it may have been nothing more than the number of bills coming before the Sub-committe that day - the calendar on their website looked pretty well "loaded-up".

If circumstances prevented anyone from contacting the sub committee members before this past Tuesday, you still have time to make your voice heard.

Any idea on who needs contact, and who doesn't? There must be some on this board who we know will vote to move it out of committee, and there is at least one; "No Pledge Brooks," who we could contact until you know what freezes over, and she would still vote no.
Any news on Coleman. I learned last year he will not listen to anyone who does not live in his district.

Emails to Representatives going unread...

Postby swise123 » Mon Mar 29, 2004 11:03 pm

FYI folks...I emailed, faxed and sent in via snail mail my letters just for this very reason....I have heard back from Paul Stanley in favor and he is the only one I have heard from.

However...I did request read receipts on all the emails that went out...now I know they can turn those off (I know I do) yet this is what I find that disturbs me. As you can see from what is below, Kent Coleman (his staff agent Monika Banc) and Rob Briley decided not to even take time to read my message. Jerome Cochran has also at least read my email...so once again...we can see who doesn't even care about what WE think or want!

Return Receipt from Kent Coleman:

Return Receipt from Rob Briley:

Good luck to all of us on HB1710!

This bill is stopped- again

Postby Tim Nunan » Wed Mar 31, 2004 5:12 pm

According to the General Assembly web site HB 1710 has been taken off notice... which normally means it is dead for the year.

Considering the name of the subcommittee I have to wonder what gun related bills have to do with "Constituation Protection"? Is there a description some where that states what the purpose of this subcommittee is suppose to be?
