Smyrna Parks

I just read that the Smyrna parks prohibit firearms. The ban is listed in Title 20 of the City Code. The parks are not posted.

(2) No person shall, without permission from the park's director, in
any park:
p) Bring into or have in his/her possession in any park any firearms, slingshots, fireworks, explosives, or dangerous weapons;

Now according to a link from the official Smyrna website, the http://townofsmyrna.org/codes-PDF/subsi ... 20Auth.pdf laws have been in effect since 07, prior to the change of TN law. Correct me if I am wrong but once the state law was change it required the local government to either pass a new law to ban firearms and previous laws would have been preempted by the change of state law.

There is no AG or other opinion on this issue as far as I know. I would read the statute, however, to require the city/county to take action after the date of the law particularly since the law allowed a deferred effective date for county/city responses.

How do we get an AG opinion on the validity of laws that were in effect prior to the change of state law?

Oh...so THAT'S why I've seen all the muggers, perverts and rapists stopping by and "checking their weapons" at the Smyrna Park entrances ...Now I understand. I feeeel soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo safe now.
