New National Park Carry Law

Postby xlr8 » Sat Feb 20, 2010 4:50 pm

There is a statement in a Knoxville News Sentinel story on 20 FEB 2010 that seems to be incorrect. The statement: "In Tennessee, a permit is required to carry a loaded handgun, either openly or concealed. North Carolina, an open-carry state, requires a permit only for concealed handguns. "

It is my understanding that Tennessee is/was already an open carry state and that the new Federal law to allow carry into National Parks is just to eliminate the Federal prohibition regulation.

The new National Park carry law goes into effect on Monday, 22 FEB 2010.

Here is the article link:

Any thoughts?

I don't really post very much but the thought just occured. Why couldn't it have been written like the fishing license regulation? My TN. license is good on either side of the park and as long as I don't venture outside of the park boundries I can fish in N.C.

It could have been written that way - not sure why it was not since it is federal property.

Actually the fishing license is a state agreement. Years ago you could fish both sides of LBL (in both TN and KY) on a license from either state. Now only on the TN side with a TN license. TN may still have the same agreement with NC and ALA but they no longer have that (at least the last time I check about 5 years ago) with KY.

Yes, though word is that the buildings are off-limits, either by posted signs, or because they're "federal buildings".
