here in the not-too-distant future i'm looking into getting a new rifle. i'm looking to do some western elk hunting and have been sugested to the 300 remington ultramag. anyone on here have on of these beasts? i've also been advised i should put a muzle brake on it but i would probably shoot it first to see if the recoil is really that bad.
any suggestions/comments are welcome.
thanks

A co-worker has a Remington 700 in 300 Ultramag and really likes it. His is very accurate. With factory ammo, it shoots 3 shot groups of about one inch at 100 yards. He says the recoil is less than a typical 3" 12 gage load in a pump shotgun and doesn't bother him. Nosler says it is an extremely accurate cartridge. If you need lots of power and range, this is a good one!
