Nashville: Pre-emption Resolution?

According to today's Tennessean, "Metro Council members passed a resolution last week criticizing the legislature's efforts to dictate gun laws for local parks." http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll ... 9905270417 ) When I wrote my council person about this, I was told that the "resolution was more about the General Assembly's attempts at local pre-emption," inferring the resolution had nothing to do with the Metro closing off Metro's parks for carry. Does any one here have the skinny on what's going on with this Nashville issue?

Thanks!

I have talked with 2 council members. They think that there are 27+ votes out of 40 ready to close all Nashville parks.

The resolution last week was not effective to close them under the language that just passed but it is not going to require much more than that when the time comes.

It is going to be critical for all gun owners who live in, use or may use Nashville's parks and those of other large cities to write these local legislators.

We need to demand that the parks stay open

We need to admonish them that 2nd Amendment is now an issue in their elections

We need to alert them that votes to close any local parks will result in lost votes but more than that it will result in you as an activist working against their re-election with not only time but money.

We have a long way to go and a short time to get there......

Did the Pre-emption Resolution have any roots in the upcoming "Park Carry" bill? My Coucil person said: "Actually, the resolution was more about the General Assembly's attempts at local pre-emption," then avoided the topic of park carry. - Was she being misleading?

Sorry for the confusion, but I had only seen the Tennessean's story mentioning the resolution when I posted my question. I hadn't read the resolution at the time. My council person's reply to my e-mail lead me to believe the resolution was not so much about "park carry," but metro's right to make their own laws concerning gun issues. My question was to help me make sense of the confusion why the Tennessean said the resolution was one thing, and my rep, another. I have since read the resolution and think my council person's reply was a little mis-leading. Whether intentional, or not, I don't know.

She has since written and said that her main passion to vote for the resolution was that it specifically forbids local pre-emption. - Really makes no sense, from what I can see. Especially, since cities have the ability to opt out by a simple majority vote. - Maybe, she's just following the herd.

Would you be willing to post the communication's with the councilwoman or at least her replies? We are going to be mounting a push on local council members, etc., just as we do state legislators.
