According to things I am hearing, seeing, and reading, harwell is going to be the nomination for speaker and has beaten out casada in that regard. We are totally screwed as far as gun bills go until a new speaker comes in.

Finding out today that Beth Harwell and her Husband own a company called Big Time Toys. All their labor is in Hong Cong and China. Not sure how this works with her plan to create jobs. Additionaly there are losts aof recall issues and Consumer Product Safety Commission questions over the years. Do a little internet research and you will be surprised what you will find.

Like many here I am not fond of Harwell, however all is not lost.

For starters, we have yet to see the committee system. If she is smart, she will not hack off conservatives. It wouldn't be too terribly hard for Democrats to pick up a few seats in the next few elections if state Republicans look liberal. And, we would always have the option of discharge petitions (or whatever they are called) and force it beyond committees.

I admit, this is hope here, but I would think Harwell to be smart enough to avoid hacking off a very watchful part of the voters that maybe wouldn't hurt her, but could hurt her party, and cost her the Speaker seat if the Republicans were moved out of the House majority. (Not likely, but if the Republicans lose a lot of seats, even if they retain a majority the concept of changing leaders may become appealing).

Worst case scenario, we are forced to back a challenger in her primary to send the message home that we are not to be crossed. I personally would, assuming the economy doesn't crash too much further and make it hard to feed myself, put up money to support any opponent of hers, even a liberal democrat (just to remove her) should it be needed. I really do not anticipate having to go that far however. While we do not know the vote numbers regarding how much she beat Casada by, she likely understands that we are not a group to marginalized much, and considering the fact that quite a few other conservative groups, such as pro-lifers, are not fond of her, she may make the wise decision to not antagonize her party base.

Or maybe she is just a Republican Nancy Pelosi, and we are all well and truly screwed. We will soon find out.

This close to the election and this is the first thing happening. I have had one e-mail after another warning about this lady getting the speakers job. Contact your rep. and advise them to vote against her was the never ending warning from soo many groups. We did contact our rep.and asked him to vote her down. Of course we don't know how he voted because of the secret ballot. Then to get on a national web site [pro 2nd Amendment ] and go to our state and see a guy say this is no big deal and this secret ballot has been going on for years. If you have worked hard for and contributed to these last campaigns you feel like you have been kicked in the mouth with this kind of action. I have been to two political meetings since the election and at both just about everybody there was pissed about this speaker situation. Is there a dimes difference in the way the parties do business. I am having my doubts.I also wonder weather pro 2nd Amendment people are for the 2nd Amendment. There are a LOT of people around that don't have a clue as to what is going on. When they catch on it will be too late.
