WHO IS JIM HARDIN?
Jim is the oldest of six children and is a sixth generation Tennessean who has been married to his wife Deborah Lee Hardin for more than thirty years. He's the proud father of three and grandfather ("Papa") of eight.
Jim is a man dedicated to his family, faith, and community. He's been a resident of Covington, TN since moving there in 1991 while on active duty for the U.S. Navy. He retired last year from the Navy and is proud to have served his country in Iraq, at sea, and here in the U.S.
WHERE & WHY IS JIM RUNNING?
Jim is running for State Representative in West Tennessee District 81 which encompasses all of Haywood County and the majority of Tipton. He is running against, and determined to beat, former Speaker and liberal Jimmy Naifeh who has held the seat since 1974. Naifeh is one of the most liberal members of the Tennessee General Assembly. He has repeatedly attempted to establish a state income tax, consistently pushed for more government programs and spending, and has established himself as soft on illegal immigration. Jim believes that district 81 has had all it can take of Speaker Naifeh's liberal policies that are harmful to our economy and an infringement on our rights. Jim wants to replace Speaker Naifeh's liberal voice with conservative representation so he can help protect Tennesseans' rights, stop government intrusion, and promote policies that will spur job creation and economic growth for the district.
WHAT WILL JIM DO FOR YOU IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE?
Jim is ready to help put an end to the nearly 15 percent unemployment facing the 81st district by advocating policies that will help create new jobs, retain the ones already there, and attract new businesses to the area. One of his goals as a State Representative is to introduce legislation that would require state agencies to buy Tennessee products and services, utilize existing programs to put people to work - not rely on the Federal government, and empower the free market to create jobs by cutting unnecessary and costly regulations.
Jim will also work to protect Tennesseans' agricultural lifestyle. Jim knows that agriculture is the life-blood for many Haywood and Tipton County citizens which is why he believes Tennessee should protect farmers from burdensome and costly regulations. He wants to shield farmers from laws designed to enrich an environmental lobby supported by "junk science" and replace subsidies with lower taxes and business costs.
Jim is dedicated to preserving conservative Republican principles. He is 100 percent pro-life and will always vote that way in the legislature. He is hunter who will always fight to protect Second Amendment rights. And Jim knows the best way to get our economy moving again is with lower taxes and less government without excessive spending, intrusion, and regulations.
