If you love your guns call your legislator

There are several bills before the legislature that will seriously endanger our second amendment rights. HB0867 - SB0569 is a fine example. This is the bill summary right off the state of Tennessee's website.

Bill Summary for HB0867 / *SB0569This bill would require, effective January 1, 2006, that all firearms transported into and sold in this state be "personalized," meaning that the firearm incorporates technology that automatically limits its operational use so that it can only be fired by a recognized or authorized user. A violation of this bill would be a Class E felony. This bill would exempt from its requirements handguns made available for purchase and official use by local, state, and federal law enforcement officers, other federal employees required to carry firearms, and members of the United States armed forces or national guard while actually on duty.

This is another "old" bill that was killed almost immediately upon it submission. Representative Henri Brooks, D-Memphis, submits this bill every session and it goes nowhere. It's straight out of the Brady Campaign and you will most likely find it in the upcoming year's bevy of bills.
Representative Henri Brooks is also called "No Pledge" Brooks as she refused to stand or say the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Seems she considers our nation's flag to be racist  Of course this is no surprise to those of us who have seen her "do it for the children" antics while representing the people of Memphis.

Please do NOT confuse her with Representative HARRY Brooks, who is my representative and pro gun. "Our Miss Brooks" was the vice chair of the Constitutional Protection
Subcommittee, which did NOTHING to protect our gun rights. In fact, this committee, thanks to other anti gun members Kim McMillan, Rob Briley and turncoat Kent Coleman who filled out an NRA survey to get an "A" pro gun rating, blocked almost all of the pro gun legislation from reaching the House floor for a vote. Mr. Coleman basically lied to the NRA, got his "A" rating and then voted like an "F" rated politician.

We need to remember Kent Coleman when he stands for re-election a year from now.

John will post a TFA/LAC with the bills once the TN GA cranks up and then we can get busy on them. In the interim, everyone should consider visiting their legislators while they are "home" and attend their fundraisers. I recently attended a fundraiser for Harry Brooks and talked with him on pending gun issues so he would have some understanding of what wa going on. As gun owners, we cannot assume politicians know anything about guns or gun issues. If they truly did, we wouldn't have a lot of these really dumb gun laws on the books.

I agree with Bill, and urge each of you to consider contributing to a pro-gun legislator in your area. The incumbents are bound by law to not accept campaign contributions while they are in session, which will will be from Jan. to May or June next year. Whether or not they have an opponent, they will at least be incurring the cost of having yard signs made up. Every little bit from each of us helps out.
