Like I stated..If I'm wrong..But this is the exact quote from the TCAs.

"39-17-1311. Carrying weapons on public parks, playgrounds, civic centers and other public recreational buildings and grounds.
(a) It is an offense for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, with the intent to go armed,
[b]any weapon prohibited by § 39-17-1302(a), not used solely for instructional, display or sanctioned [/b]ceremonial purposes, in or on the grounds of any public park, playground, civic center or other building facility, area or property owned, used or operated by any municipal, county or state government, or instrumentality thereof, for recreational purposes.

Here are the prohibited weapons. I don't see handguns here anywhere.

39-17-1302. Prohibited weapons.
(a) A person commits an offense who intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs or sells:
(1) An explosive or an explosive weapon;
(2) A device principally designed, made or adapted for delivering or shooting an explosive weapon;
(3) A machine gun;
(4) A short-barrel rifle or shotgun;
(5) A firearm silencer;
(6) Hoax device;
(7) A switchblade knife or knuckles; or
(8) Any other implement for infliction of serious bodily injury or death which has no common lawful purpose.

John, I'd like to reduce the cost of the carry permit and the renewal.

I agree with SomeGuy, although I'll give them a different order(** = my comments):

1: A push to remove any government agent or authority (local govs, or agencies) from posting thier places. This would give only private businesses the ability to post their facilities as off limits to carry. This would give us park carry, and the ability to carry into any local government facilities. Also, while working on the law about posting properties, remove the criminal penalty for carrying in such a place. Have it require the property owner/manager to order you to leave. If you stay, you only get a tresspassing citation.
**Our government says they will trust us with a handgun - just not around them. As if having the Constitution & being a citizen are not enough - we've been checked out pretty good!

2: Restaurant carry.
**It seems like fast-food is your most likely meal while carrying.

3: Re-write the laws so colleges are not covered as off limits, and then cover them under point 2, so that we get college carry.

4: Lowered fees/get our HCP to count as a NICS check when purchasing.
**at least, please don't raise the fees, I especially like the last part.

5: More reciprocity.

**I don't like the idea of driving possibly many miles to a park owned by 'the people', just to possibly find that it is posted. Our government should trust us. We jumped through all the hoops.


**Another thing I don't like is a TWRA reg/law forbidding the carrying of a handgun where big game inhabit? If a white-tailed deer is considered big game, never get your handgun out of your safe!

Oh, and I guess I'd have to insert between 3 & 4 : Make the list of HCP holders 'official use only'.

New TFA member and new gun owner. I just applied for my permit two days ago and I'm already upset that I can't wear my gun when I go out to eat or take a trip to the park. These are two insane restrictions! Who do I write to urge that these laws be changed!

If you expect to get your permit in a couple weeks, took over 90days for mine. They claimed they were backlogged.

I feel like I've mailed off for a rebate!

Applied for my renewal 1/30/06 at the Nashville DPS station on Murfreesboro Rd. Still waiting to see my new permit. Of course I will still be able to carry after it expires. I sent for renewal almost 90 days before the expiration date and I have my receipt.
