Anyone know how the new bill works? Now that TN recognizes all other state permits, when will other states start recognizing Tennessee permits? For example, AL only recognizes states that recognize their permits; also will be true in NC, Aug. 14. However, TN permits are still not recognized in AL (still have to use my non-resident NH permit).
Does TN contact all the states, and see if they will recognize our permit?
Part of my question was answered when I read the AL AG page.http://www.tfaonline.org/memberforum/viewtopic.php?t=100
But does the TN AG have to contact all the states that do no recognize our permits?

New law requires TN to execute written agreements with any states that require it (see TCA 39-17-1351(r) (ed 2003). That duty is placed upon the Commissioner of the Department of Safety.
Also, as of 7/1/03, the Department of Safety has the legal duty to prepare a list of states that honor TN permits and publish that list.
Website for TN not updated..

Where do they have to publish this list? The AL website shows they accept TN permits, but I have not seen anything on the TN website to state they accept all other states' permits. Currently, they only show 10 states: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia. (I guess it was updated sometime in June when the signed with Michigan.)
I guess for a TN resident, it is immaterial; as long as the state you are traveling through posts on their website that they accept a TN permit, as AL has done on their website. (Good idea to verify with the state AG too.) However, for those from out-of-state visiting TN, a notice on the TN website, that can be printed, might help if pulled over for a speeding violation, and the officer asks if the person has a handgun.
