TFALAC ALERT: HB2225 Update - 3 to 2 on Party Lines

Obviously this will be our primary topic of discussion at tomorrow night's meeting of the Shelby County TFA. I've asked John who the Asst. Chief is, from MPD, that's testifying against us, and would prefer criminals arm themselves by breaking into our cars.

The International Association of Chiefs Of Police is, among other things, an anti gun rights group. They are the uniformed individuals that would pose for Bill Clinton's photo ops, when he needed to give the impression that cops supported his anti gun agenda. The International Association of Chiefs Of Police worked hand in glove with Sarah Brady to reauthorize the so called "assault weapons ban. Their support of this serious infringement on our rights and their affiliation with Brady can be found in their own news letter from August of last year:

Remember, this organization represents primarily political appointees, NOT the front line cops, who overwhelmingly support the citizens they protect and serve. For example, this is NOT the position of the Law Enforcement Alliance of America (LEAA), which is America's largest coalition of law enforcement professionals. This outstanding group of cops knows that we are not the problem.

I'm no attorney, but I know that; HELL YES, the committee system, as it's being abused here, is unconstitutional! Until we can run the Iron Triangle of Tyranny out of this committee, which probably means democrats not being in the majority, perhaps we can beat them in court? Please get every Gun Owner and Freedom Minded Person you know to contact their "representatives" on this. Three anti gun legislators are holding the Civil Rights of everyone in Tennessee hostage.

I attended the House Constitutional Protections Subcommittee today for the
vote on HB 2225. I am encouraged to have met and talked with many TFA alert
participants and wanted to thank those of you who could make it - even from
Memphis and Knoxville - on such short notice! As an extra bonus, those in
attendance also had the change to meet, talk with and have their photographs
taken with Darren LaSorte, NRA-ILA for Tennessee.

Rep. Frank Buck, the sponsor on HB2225, did a very good job of presenting
the bill for the benefit predominately of 3 of his Democrat peers who
appeared predestined to vote against the legislation no matter what was
said. Oddly enough, Rep. Henri Brooks asked to go into recess so that an
assistance police chief from Memphis could speak against the legislation on
behalf of the Chiefs of Police association.

After very little discussion, the vote on the bill was 2 in favor
(Republicans Chris Newton and Jerome Cochran) and 3 against (Democrats Kim
McMillan, Henri Brooks and Janis Sontany). That would normally kill the
bill. However, with 60 sponsors we have potentially another option and that
is to try and bring the bill into full committee or even to the floor.
There are procedures to do just that but these procedures are seldom used by
legislators to circumvent the committee system.

We will be preparing a list of the 39 legislators who have refused the
opportunity to sponsor this bill at this time. We need to get abother 15 or
so to sign on as sponsors before fully evaluating our options.

Any of you who are attorneys or who are interested in legal research, I
would appreciate your comments on whether and to what extent the United
States Supreme Court decision in Baker v. Carr

that Tennessee House subcommittee system is an unconstitutional deprivation
of a representative form of government.
