TFA/GOA Member Running in the 83rd District

Dear Fellow TFA Members:

Although I live in Bartlett - Dist. 97, where Tre Harget will hopefully
become Majority Leader or Speaker, I'm going to be doing volunteer work for Chuck Bates. I've known Chuck for six years and believe he will restore REPRESENTATION to Dist. 83. Tennessee Tax Payers, Constitutionalists and Gun Owners will have no better friend in the legislature than Chuck Bates. The fact that he is
endorsed by GOA says a lot about him. Please vote for Chuck in the Republican primary Aug. 5th.

In Liberty,

Pat McGarrity

GOA life member Chuck Bates is making a second bid for the Tennessee
House of Representatives.

Bates faces a number of challengers in the August 5 primary, but
there is one candidate who is absent from the list -- the incumbent
anti-gunner who has retired following the close call he experienced
from Bates' 2002 campaign.

Bates is a strong champion of Vermont-style concealed carry
legislation. Such a law in Tennessee would mean that citizens could
carry a concealed firearm without any permits or licenses from the
government.

Since the criminal element already carries guns without permits, it
seems only proper for the rest to be able to do so. To insist that
the government set the requirements only for the good guys to carry a
gun is immoral and an intentional favoring of criminals.

One of the pressing issues in the next session will be to continue
the fight to allow concealed carry permit holders to protect their
families while dining in a restaurant. The only restriction would be
that they could not order an alcoholic beverage.

Another no-defense zone at the moment is the parking lot of any
company that wants its employees to be defenseless. There will be an
effort, which Bates supports, to permit employees to have their guns
in their cars -- something that is currently prohibited if company
policy so requires.

These are measures that will make it easier for people in Tennessee
to deal effectively with thugs, namely being able to shoot them when
they threaten peaceful citizens' lives.

I hope you will join me in contributing to Bates' campaign. You can
do that by sending the Reply Memo below, along with your check,
directly to his campaign at Friends of Chuck Bates, P.O. Box 382325,
Germantown, TN. 38183. A secure server is available at
http://www.chuckbates.org/contact/donate.asp for online donations.

For those of you in the Memphis area, I hope you will also volunteer
by e-mailing chuck@chuckbates.org or calling 901-573-2842.

Remember, the primary is coming soon on Tuesday, August 5. Please
support Bates in every way you can. Your successful support for him
means placing a champion of firearms freedoms in the state
legislature in Nashville.

Sincerely,

Larry Pratt
Executive Director
