Asked if he thought there was political favoritism involved, Mr. Kimsey said, "I can't say if there is or there isn't. I am told the gentleman is a lobbyist and of course Mr. Hensley is a lobbyist."

Kimsey went on to say that Jeannette Rudy was adamantly against the closure.

"I'll have to give her credit," said Kimsey. "She actually visited the site. She said, 'the hunting area was there first. (The man buying the adjoining land) should have known exactly what was there before he bought it."

One Middle Tennessee sportsman spoke with Ms. Rudy quoted her saying, "I have been a commissioner for his district for five years of a six year term. I was the last to hear of this problem. He is a close personal friend of Tom Hensely and it is my opinion Mr. Hensley was doing a friend a favor. However, the TWRA and TWRC are not in the business of taking hunting land away from Tennessee hunters as a personal favor... This measure has opened a Pandora's box in terms of setting a precedent that we all may regret."

dont they call hensley "golden goose" ?

Yep that stinks and the commision should suck up some back water.

As far as the redefing units, they should have put morgan and scott county into some quota doe tags. And i bet they will still screw up the mz season!

"I don't think it would have changed my vote. I don't know what other factors we could have other than some people saying they hunted on it. I don't know how many people can hunt on 100 acres."

It's 900 acres!!

And "yes" I can hunt on 100. I wish I had a 100 to hunt ne.
Dont' we all? Many of my spots on PP WMA are 15 and less.

What is most telling abotu that interview is that Lock 5 is layed out just as the rest of Old Hickory WMA. Actually it's just a 1 mile section of OH WMA set aside. It's mosly flood zone that is leased to local farmers. The smae can be found at PP, Cordell Hull, Dale Hollow and all other Corps Lakes.

If Lock 5 is considered "Not fit for Hunting" Then the rest WILL follow.

Correct me if I am wrong but, in that link he states 1 time that is 900 acres then goes on to say that "he is not sure on how many people can hunt 100 acres"?
I think it is BS and is a very good example of the good ol boy system.
He says that he is not for closing public land, but did the exact thing that he says he opposes.

What an idiot.

There are 900 acres total at Locke 5. Only the south side has been closed and he is saying it is 100 acres, which is wrong.

Typical and very common practice in the political arena.
Confuse the facts with untruths and the ones that vote on it, that know nothing about it, will sway to the way he wants them to.
Make it sound like no big deal and they will say, well they have X number of thousands of acres to hunt on in TN, what is 100?

Pitiful, just simply trying to cover his butt.

Gotcha.
If it was that big of a concern to them, why didnt he push to have the whole place shut down instead of just around the property of one his acknowledged friends?
Seems to me that his buddy got the chance to expand his hunting opportunity at the expense of all the tax payers.
Wonder if he hunts, or will be hunting, the farm that his buddy owns?

By the way did anyone notice this land grabbers comment.

I think the whole 900 acres should be closed down for hunting. It's supposed to be a refuge.

He would like to close the whole 900 acres and I am sure he wouldn't mind closing the rest of the refuges in that state also, since he hasn't got a clue what a refuge is intended for.

This guy claims to be the most active hunters and fisher on the commission, yet he doesn't even have a basic understaing of our public land system. If he's the most active, you can imagine the limited knowledge the other members have.

What's a 100? What's a thousand"
Why, this here man hunts and fishes more than any of 'em.

Who needs them little 900 acres tracs of public land when you got thousands of acres of leases and "freebies" from lobbyist.

Screw the little guy.

An important battle for hunting rights and gun rights is taking place now and next year at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission meeting our right to hunt on and even walk on government land in Tennessee will be decided . One landowner has stopped hunting on one of our Wildlife Management areas hunting of over 1,000 acres .
The intention of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission [TWRC] was to close the area to all trespassing over the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency's [TWRA] protests .
Read this post and go check out the discussion on TNDEER and Cumberland Campfire web-sights.

First off, any hunter that doesn't read or surf tndeer just doesn't know what they are missing. Second, if ANY Tennessee hunter would not agree with tndeer's stand on this issue then they are obviously not a real hunter.

Where was TWF and Mike Butler during this debate? It seems to me that since they have a voting membership, are chartered by the state and not privately owned. They would have been the better choice to present this issue to the TWRC.

In my opinion, the comissioners of TWRC knew that TnDeer had no backing from a "Voting" membership type organization and therefore knew that you had no legal recourse, which resulted in a bone being thrown to quiet the yapping dogs.

I say that the commissioners need to be elected officials. If you buy a license, then you get a vote. I can think of a few that I would vote out. If they are going to be appointed, then we as sportsmen/women, need to have some input. Right now its' our tax dollars, and license fees that are running this show, and we are at the mercy of people who could care less what our best interest is. I say to start legislation to change that. Quit fighting amongst ourselves, and try to change the process. That is the real demon amongst us.

hunt smart

I to would like to know where all the Tennessee hunters were on this important issue not just the TWF and Mike Butler but those rascals over at the The Huntin Shack and Cumberland Campfire and the Gallatin Gun Club, which is real close to the area.
And last but not least the fellow at the Tennessee Firearms Association, Inc . that wanted the hunters to do something about hunting in this state, of course he was after the wrong groupe of people like Todd . If people want to do something we must present a united front or be defeated one group at a time by these professional lobbyists .
The Internet is a great way to get the word out but one web-sight alone will not win this battle of wills as some of us have seen. WE were outgunned and outvoted at the TWRC meeting and lost this battle real fast it looks like to me . We have to start right now by putting away the egos and my sight rules attitudes and seek allies is this continuing debate and fight for our hunting rights. It seems like we need a committee of dedicated hunters to go to the other web-sights in Tennessee and look for Allies in this war of wills. I do think the compromise reached is better than the area remaining totally closed, and hope this issue will be re-visited at next Spring's season-setting commission meetings. There is next year.
