NRA in Nashville

Part of me is glad we'll have a NRA national convention here since I would like to attend.

However, given how unfriendly Nashville is to permit holders, I'm having a hard time understanding why the NRA leadership is agreeing to come here. I would rather they have told Mayor Dean and the council that their unreasonable restrictions should not be rewarded with NRA business.

What restrictions? We have statewide pre-emption.

The only thing I can think of is that Nashville opted out on local parks carry. City buildings are not posted (and are not prohibited by law, either).
The Courthouse is the only place I can think of that is "overly restrictive", since state law prohibits carrying "where judicial proceedings are held"...
but Metro has the scanners at the front door, even though there are plenty of other offices in the building that are not courtrooms.

There are a number of businesses that prohibit carry, but that can be anywhere, not just Nashville.

One of the explicit reasons stated for the choice of Nashville was that there were no prohibitions on the displays of arms by the manufacturers.

I specifically told the NRA that I preferred that Nashville ONLY be considered if they did NOT have it at the $2billion tax-payer funded white elephant on the floodplain.

I wonder what the NRA will do if the new Nashville Convention Center isn't finished by then?

Ok, who wants in on the bet that Randy Rayburn will not be able to resist taking down his restaurants' posted signs when 50-70,000 gun toting people show up for the NRA Convention.

I am going to each of his and his cohorts establishments with a camera and taking pictures (you know they won't be able to pass it up). 2015 won't come fast enough for me.

I think there is a very good opportunity here. We all have heard of the organization that has been going around to restaurants misrepresenting themselves trying to get more establishments to post the ban. Well now is our turn. This will be a big convention. We need to work VERY hard to establish an ACCURATE list of those establishements that HAVE posted by the time the NRA comes to town, ESPECIALLY Mr. Rayburns. This information MUST then be communicated to EVERY convention attendee. These attendees then need to be sure they DO NOT spend ANY money at ANY of those establishments. It then should be communicated very plainly to those establishements that they WILL NOT benefit from the presence of that convention because of their position.

It also needs to be communicated to the attendees what the posting can look like in case an establishment gets overlooked for the list. They need to be advised to not patronise any establishment that has the ban posted. I would go so far as to say this needs to include any hotel or motel as well.

Rather than trying to convince the NRA that they made a wrong decision on comming to Nashville, this could be a VERY good opportunity to turn this thing back on those who by their posting say they don't want our business. OK, fine, they won't get our business. And this will be a LOT of business to loose.

This is an opportunity to have a BIG impact on the businesses. We have tried to tell businesses in Tennessee that they will loose our business if they post. Well, get real. Just how much business does one establishement in Memphis stand to loose. In all fairness, not really that much. While we may have over 250,000 permit holders in Tennessee, how many of them actually exercise the privilege granted by the permit, then of those how many are concentrated enough in one area to have a real impact on one persons business.

Shelby County has the highest number of permits, yet with a metro area of over 1 million people any one restaurant MIGHT stand to loose a handfull of customers. That is not enough to really impact their bottom line to the point that they change their policy.

This convention CAN do just that. We need it to do just that.

One other thing, which I doubt the NRA has the stones to do, is encourage open carry. Imagine the difference it could make.
