Where in the books is "Open Carry" actually discussed?
Since I live in Memphis I am also trying to find out for neighboring states such as AR, and MS.

I know it is illegal in Arkansas, as for Tennessee, it is not in the laws. We simply have handgun carry permits, concealed and open are not to be found, we can simply carry, with no restriction as to how.

Would that not also allow us to hold a handgun in our hands or have a shotgun slung over our shoulders walkin down main street?
I find it discomforting to know that the absence of legal information can be interpreted so freely without severe negative judicial discernment.
I love this state!

Here is the Tennessee Attorney General Opinion on Open Carry:
tennessee.gov/attorneygeneral/op/2005/OP/OP154.pdf (evidently you will need to cut and paste this into your browser)
Note, it is an AG opinion...to my knowledge, no court in Tennessee has actually ruled on the issue.
You have probably already seen this site, but it does give information on each state:

Tennessee law does not expressly say "concealed" or "open".
However, it is clearly addressed in the legislative history. Several amendments have been offered over the years regarding manner of carry including a concealment requirement. Those have all been defeated. Therefore, TN allows "open" carry.

Walking down the street with a gun in your hand "Implies" your intent to use it, even if that just happens to be your mode of carry. It's not smart, nor is it "Professional." Remember, we (the permit holders) are supposed to be the cream of the crop. We should act like it too. In Tennessee you can carry your gun openly. But do so in a professional and considerate manner. A nice mode of dress and properly holstered handgun simply looks better than a "Bum walking down the stree with a gun in his hand." C'mon guys, a little common sense please.
