Union City counil members

Postby Dustin Clark » Mon Jul 27, 2009 7:31 pm

I was informed today by a council member in Union City that the reason that the H.C.P holders of this town were pushing for guns in parks because we are scared to accept reality that the country is not as it was 50 years ago. This council member also told me she personally was against carrying weapons in any public place, that H.C.P. holders were not trained well enough to know the difference in an "Immediate threat" and a "non Immediate threat". She also said that her other reason for voting against handguns in parks was because she didnt think that MOST H.C.P holders were not responsible enough to carry their weapon in a safe manner to prevent the weapon from "going off" and injuring innocent civilians and children. Is there any documentation of this? Is there anything that i can read to better myself, so that if confronted about this again talking to other council members, that could help prove this other wise

thanks dustin
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in Government."

Ask her to show where the Constitution speaks to it's shelf life? I read nothing in it that says it is good only for a certain time.

If the 2nd amendment is dated, then so is Freedom of Religion, the Press, and the Right to Free Speech.

Abraham Lincoln said "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember it or overthrow it."

‘‘Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.’’ Cesare Beccaria.

‘‘And that the said Constitution be never construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press, or the rights of conscience; or to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms; or to raise standing armies, unless necessary for the defense of the United States, or of some one or more of them; or to prevent the people from petitioning, in a peaceable and orderly manner, the federal legislature, for a redress of grievances; or to subject the people to unreasonable searches and seizures of their persons, papers or possessions.’’ Samuel Adams, Debates of the Massachusetts Convention of 1788.

‘‘The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they will win and the decent people will lose.’’ James Earl Jones, Actor

False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Cesare Beccaria, as quoted by Thomas Jefferson's Commonplace book.

"To disarm the people... was the best and most effectual way to enslave them." George Mason, speech of June 14, 1788.

If she has a clue as to who any of the aforementioned people are, she should be well aware that the quotes are all about this issue, and as relevant today as when they were penned.

Perhaps she would remember these folks.

‘‘The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, we decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they will win and the decent people will lose.’’ James Earl Jones, Actor

“By calling attention to ‘a well regulated militia’, the ’security’ of the nation, and the right of each citizen ‘to keep and bear arms’, our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny which gave rise to the Second Amendment will ever be a major danger to our nation, the Amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic civilian-military relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason, I believe the Second Amendment will always be important.” John F. Kennedy, April 1960

"Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. This is not to say that firearms should not be very carefully used and that definite rules of precaution should not be taught and enforced. But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against the tyranny which now appears remote in America but which historically has proven to be always possible." Senator Hubert H. Humphrey, MN, campaigning for the 1960 Democratic Presidential Nomination.

"This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future." Adolph Hitler

"All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party." Mao Tse Tung

TN Attorney General Opinion No. 08-19, dated Feb. 08, 2008 states: “Under the language of Art. I,” Section ”26, the legislature’s authority to regulate the wearing and carrying of arms is limited to measures that are intended to prevent crime.” Ask your Lady Council person where her data is that proves that allowing legal, Constitutional Carry increases crime?

50 years ago, 233 years ago, 50 seconds ago, the Founders intended for our Constitution to stand for Freedom and Liberty through the ages. To abandon it now to support some liberal agenda is treason.

Her ideas about gun owners must be about the gang bangers she know something about, not the legal HCP Holder, ask her for statistics showing facts as to HCP Holder mishaps with their weapons, where is that data?
"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds." Samuel Adams
