Senator Jackson's May statement on HB0962

Postby johnharris » Fri May 15, 2009 12:06 pm

Senator Doug Jackson has done an excellent job for Tennessee's firearms owners over the years. He has carried bills, passed bills and has literally converted fellow legislators to believe as he does that Tennessee's firearms owners are generally deserving of have the existing restrictions reduced.

One of the things that is noteworthy is that Senator Jackson has this year repeatedly stated a philosophy, which is reflected in this video, that the real legislative question on firearms issues is not whether there is a need to remove restrictions on firearms owners and handgun permit holders but whether the state has a compelling need to put or keep those restrictions in place. That perspective is consistent with the approach by the Tennessee Supreme Court on this issue in 1871 when it commented on the amendment of Article 1, Section 26 to the Tennessee Constitution a year prior. It is a concept, a doctrine and a philosophy that more of our legislators must learn and apply.

Now if only more legislatures would emulate Sen. Jackson. (Are you paying attention Jimmy Naifeh, ?)

he did a very good job with that. what struck me most was in his closing when he said gun regulations affect only the law abiding and in imposing these regs. we are saying WE DON'T TRUST YOU!!!, i believe that speaks volumes, a government that intends to control rather than assist it's citizens are washed in corruption, greed, and tyranny. WE THE PEOPLE are not servants of the government, rather they exist to serve WE THE PEOPLE., it's truly a shame how many people are not aware of what goes on right under their noses. this memorial day I wonder how many might say a prayer of thanks for the brave,or how many just view it as a chance to hit a party and get drunk.it's all a two way street, yes the government is out of control, and also yes, the citizens of America have backslidden and lost their watchful eye.I think my friends and people I meet must hate me by now, because I always talk about taking back America to restore her glory. and then i witness one of them bringing up subjects i previously educated them about to someone else while i'm standing there! most all things are contagious, despair, destitution, happiness, bravery, and doing the right thing. good job senator Jackson
