These bills below would outlaw irresponsible actions like the CA has done in publishing the permit holder's database. This information could lead a stalker to find a potential victim that had moved to another area to get away from the threat and puts the privacy of permit holders in a separate class with less privacy. Please contact your legislators and tell them to pass this legislation.

Confidentiality of handgun carry permit applications. Makes confidential information pertaining to handgun carry permits relative to public inspection or publication. Authorizes law enforcement agencies to access such information for investigating or prosecuting purposes. Specifies that publication of such information by anyone other than the permit holder is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by fine only. (S: Ketron; H: Bass)

Declares information contained in handgun carry permit applications and renewals, information provided to agencies to investigate applicant, and records maintained relative to the permit application is confidential. HB0221 already has a Senate companion, but HB0053 appears tougher.
John, from a lawyerly POV, which stands a better chance of passing, staying on the books, serving us well, and deserves to be pushed harder?

HB0221 has a better chance. They are not going to make it a felony if a state employee releases information and there is a higher fiscal note.

What exactly is the fine, and can we make it charged per name released? As in, for showing off the entire database, they get charged once for every HCP holder there is?

I wrote to both my senator and Rep and heard back from the Rep so far and he will vote for the bill.
