I do not expect it to happen in Tennessee until we replace some of the Big Government "Establishment" Republicans with those who actually place constitutional principles first.

The problem, at least one of them, is that TN collects $10 for every transfer. There are around 300,000 transfers per year. That is $3 million or more in revenue funded solely on this program. That means some number of state jobs are at stake if the state altered state law so that the permit could be used in lieu of paying the tax, uh, fee for the background check.

However, the manning and administration cost's of doing the transfer checks will be reduced proportionally.
Thus, a net savings are possible. This COULD be used as a positive on the 'financial impact statement' for the bill.

The legislature does not consider "net savings" in fiscal note matters. Also, a more relevant factor for the state is how many "state jobs" would be lost. Shows how crazy even a so called "Republican" controlled legislature and Governor is...
