State Senate and salaries

I was watching the local news last night and they were discussing the fact that members of the state senate make only $17,000 a year. Isn't that almost coming out a blatantly saying that these people are making money under the table and using their office for personal gain ? You can make more working at Mc'Donalds. I realize a few people may do it because they are already well off and want to give something back but how many realistically do it for that reason ?

yes. They salary may be 17000 but there are also "per diem" payments, living expenses, "perks," and even state supplied staff (secretaries, runners, clerks, aids, etc.)

Ask yourself this - have you ever seen a legislator beg for anything other than campaign funds?
