Election 2004

Postby dwaldrip » Thu Apr 08, 2004 9:54 pm

Back on July 1 of last year, John Harris logged the following post

*****************
Tennessee firearms owners need conservative and capable candidates to challenge the following members of the 103 General Assembly should they seek to continue their seat in office:

Kim McMillan (D. Clarksville)

Rob Briely (D. Nashville)

Kent Coleman (D. Murfreesboro)

Henri "I don't say the pledge" Brooks (D. Memphis)
********************

As you know, these are the members of the Constitutional Protections Sub-Committee who have consistently blocked the vast majority of TFA supported legislation.

Well, friends and neighbors, last Thursday was the filing deadline for the Nov. 2 General Election.

From you can see the list of qualifying candidates, and each of our "offenders" has an opponent as follows:
_________________________________________________
House District 49
Democrat

Kent Coleman *
14 Public Square North
Murfreesboro, TN 37130

We have an opportunity here folks, and it is up to us to make the best of it.

First, if you look at this and shake your head in disgust that all of this is basically politics, and that your rights are God given and shouldn't be subjected to political whims, I congratulate you on being correct, but ask that you wake up to the real world. If you choose not to wake up and face reality, and choose not to participate, then, best of luck to you.

Second, if you're looking for some way to make a difference, this is your way. We can take active personal roles in these campaigns, or more passive roles of financial contributors. Either one helps. No experience is necessary.

Third, I'd like to make a humble suggestion. Someone from each local area needs to volunteer to contact the opposition candidate and see "how the land lays", and report back here, and perhaps become a liaison to the campaign. Hopefully, we'll see some positive and encouraging news.

As one looks at the list, three of these races are in middle Tennessee. This offers a unique and very important challenge to you folks there. Please, we need three of you to step up and take this one on.

Here's to high hopes, folks.

I've made contact a couple of times with Oscar Gardner in Murfreesboro, who also has a in this forum.

Mr. Gardner's campaign is picking up momentum and he'll have a web site up soon. Most impressive is the fact that he already has a group of volunteers that is going door to door a couple of evenings and on Saturday each week. The group on Saturday is running at about 10 people.

So far, the volunteers will have knocked on 2300 doors by the end of the week.

More volunteers are needed, and Oscar asks that anyone who is interested contact him at any of the following:

His home number is 615-895-8613, if no one answers, leave a message. His cell is 556-2194, and his office is 904-0440.

Campaign contributions can be made payable and sent to:

FRIENDS OF OSCAR GARDNER
2377 RIVER ROAD
MURFREESBORO, TN 37129

If you live in the Murfreesboro or Nashville area, please consider helping Oscar bring Kent Coleman's politcal career to an end.

Election 2004

Postby Tim Nunan » Thu Jun 24, 2004 3:23 pm

John Litz (D), 10th Tennessee district (Hamblen Couty) is being challenged by Nina Fullington (R).

While Mr. Litz hasn't done anything overtly in opposition to gun owners and at a Lakeway chapter stated that he could support a bill to carry where alcohol is served (the 51% version) neither has he gone out of his way to help pass favorable bills.

Mrs. Fullington has a carry permit and has voice support for carry where alcohol is served in a food establishments.

On the face of it I presume that Mrs. Fullington would be a stronger supporter. She is scheduled to speak to the Lakeway chapter in September and we will have a better understanding of her position.

NRA and Kent Coleman

Postby Tim Nunan » Mon Jun 28, 2004 2:40 pm

An NRA-ILA Election Volunteer Coordinator (EVC) seminar was held last
weekend in Atlanta with 3 Tennessee EVCs attending.

Among the many things discussed was Kent Coleman's (TN House district 49) deception in getting a favorable rating from NRA-PVF. The NRA apparently recognizes it was hood-winked and encourages support for challenger Oscar Gardner "in every way possible."

Because there is no NRA EVC for the Congressional district which includes
TN House district 49 I thought I'd send this out to the TFA members so we
can help defeat Coleman.

There is a practical fact to many of the "Friendly" local democrats who may have even helped us in the past. Many of these gun friendly democracts - particularly in the Tennessee House of Representatives - continue to vote in support of Speaker Naifeh and support Speaker Naifeh's appointed leaders which include Kim McMillan, Rob Briley and Kent Coleman. Unless these "friendly" Democrats agree to vote against the reappointment of these liberal democrats to positions of power in the party - and consequently the General Assembly - then they may well be helping to keep anti-Second Amendment legislators in power. Can we tolerate that even if they are our friends?
