Rick Perry to Meet, Recruit CT and NY Gun Manufacturers to Texas
Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) will be in Connecticut June 17 to meet with firearm manufacturers who find their businesses penalized and hampered by the new gun control laws enacted by Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy (D) on April 4.
Perry will also meet with some firearm manufactures in New York whose businesses face new regulations under the gun control laws Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) signed in January.
Connecticut-based firearm companies include Colt, Ruger, Mossberg, and Stag Arms. Of these, Mossberg already sent a letter to Connecticut Gov. Malloy, voicing their disapproval of the anti-gun climate in the state.
In the letter, Mossberg VP Joseph H. Bartozzi indicated the company does not appreciate the way Malloy bad mouths the gun industry, and he made it clear that the new gun control legislation makes Connecticut a tougher state to do business in:
"At a time when we are facing product boycotts simply because we have a manufacturing presence in Connecticut, I would respectfully ask that you carefully consider the affect that your words have both within and outside this state. At a time when we are being encouraged to move our manufacturing facility to one of several states, your words make us feel most unwelcomed. In a state where our company has been providing good, well-paying jobs for over nine decades, your words make us feel decidedly unappreciated."
Gov. Perry will be in Connecticut next Monday to let Mossberg know Texas appreciates them--and that Texas has lower taxes, less regulation, and a thriving economy to grow their business in.
His trip will be complimented by a $1 million television ad campaign in which Perry says, "Texas is calling. Your opportunity awaits."
