Anyone know anything about Summerville? He defeated our good friend Doug Jackson and all I know about him is that he had a few signs up in Lawrenceburg.

I admit, I was surprised to see that. Unless I missed another race, this was the only Dem state Sen who was beaten.

I don't know anything about Summerville. Very strange when I saw the results. I do not think its related to his sponsorship of firearms legislation - at least I hope not!

There were a lot folks that were voting strictly anti democrat and not looking at the individuals record. Trying to send a message to the party. I think kore likely he is a victim of party affiliation. He fought hard for our rights and as far as I am concerned I would rather have some of the TN democrats than any of the IL republicans.

I do not believe for a second it was his pro-gun bills, though the media is trying hard to make that the cause.

I know Jackson was invited to several tea party meetings and he never responed to the invite. I missed the one meeting where Summerville spoke. I know my wife, son and I all voted for Jackson as he did us good. I heard Summerville give a five minute talk once and he is pro 2A.

Perhaps all TFA members should contact Summerville and congratulate him on his win. Then we should tell him what we expect of him when it comes to the 2A. The NRA rated him "F" which means he didn't answer the questionnaire they sent to all the candidates.

Maybe John will write a letter for us that we could use or plagiarize. I haven’t found his home address or phone #, not a good sign.

Check out this link that’s all I know right now. http://www.wdxe.com/wdxe.php?rfc=narticle.php&id=16121.

SubVet,

I thought if candidates did not respond they put down NR. F means reliably anti-gun.

According to the November issue of Freedom (NRA magazine) on page 32 the definition of an “F” is, “refused to answer the NRA-PVF candidate questionnaire, often an indication of indifference, if not outright hostility, to gun owners’ and sportsman’s rights”.

I just found this site, check it out. http://nrapvf.org/

Look at the definition of an "F", much stronger wording than what posted previously.

Based on comments on the Tennessee Pet Law list many animal owners in Jackson's district didn't like his getting cozy with H$U$/PETA bills that he helped get passed.

I know Doug Jackson along with Ben West will be missed as far as legislation favorable to gun owners.

Here's a link with more on "who is Summerville". http://www.lawrencecountyadvocate.net/v ... 9&ID=15872

This is from a Lawrenceburg new paper and the print is small but if I can read it anyone can read it.

Looks a bit like a fluff piece. Nothing real stand out, course I might have missed something.

Jim Summerville, from all I've seen is just as strong on the Second Amendment as Doug Jackson. Doug will be missed but in this past election 90% of the voters supported Hunting and Fishing to be a Right in the state of Tennessee. Sen Jackson supported bills by the Humane Society US. HSUS is the largest Anti-Hunting organization in the United States. NOt a good organization to support when 90% of the voters vote Hunting to be a right. I always laugh when I see their commercials showing animals in animal shelters and acting like HSUS takes care of them when the fact is HSUS does not own or operate even ONE shelter. They are all owned by state or local govt's yet people still send them money thinking they are saving a shelter. That is why I believe he did not win this election along with the people wanting to throw the National Democrat Party out of power, which punished some in local elections with the (D) at the end of their name.
Here is what I have found on Sen. Summerville. He should be a good replacement, but time will tell. NOtice in number 10 that it specifically says "Right to Bear Arms".

According to his website, Summerville supports a 10-point platform which would:

1.Take the sales tax off groceries
2.Cut the cost of state government by at least 20%, beginning with the overly-long sessions of the legislature and the salaries and perks of its members and staff
3.Downsize executive departments, agencies, bureaus and commissions, cutting jobs and putting the fewer bureaucrats on less pay. We have too much State government in too many layers and we need to shrink it.
4.Sell off State-run enterprises that could better be handled by private enterprises, such as the State-park concessions. Sell the State’s airplane fleet and the excessive number of its cars
5.Repeal unfunded State mandates to local governments
6.Make English the official language of State documents
7.Eliminate public expenditures for anyone not a citizen of the United States, except in emergency and dire temporary situations
8.Hold public colleges and universities strictly accountable for high standards before any more tuition increases
9.Require legislative review of all State regulation at regular intervals with the goal of taking many of these burdens off business. Simplify the regulatory climate faced by entrepreneurs
10.Support Second Amendment guarantees of the right to bear arms.
Summerville also says that he will work to strengthen "Tennessee right-to-life laws and for a more favorable environment for home schooling and charter schools."

He summarizes his platform in this way: "In short, I favor a smaller and smarter State government. If you’re satisfied with the status quo, you’ll probably want to vote for the incumbent. If not, I would appreciate your consideration. I welcome dissident Democrats and new Tea Partier friends."

Interesting that the Nashville paper yesterday had an article saying that Jackson got defeated because of his support for the restaurant bill, but it seems that Summerville supports pro-freedom laws also. So once again, we see that reporters aren't really doing "reporting", but instead are either issuing their opinion or what they want you to believe.

EXACTLY, I saw that Tennessean Article too and laughed at the ignorance of the writer adding in a statement (I was shocked....shocked, yea right) he may wish is true but is not. According to all I have found Summerville would have voted for the bill, but time will tell. Hopefully his votes reflect his statements, and I have a gut feeling that they will.
