Please write your reps and let them know that you do NOT want them to vote for HB3125 ---UNLESS--- at least amendment 3, the part about posting is removed. The little gunbuster signs can be very hard to see sometime and some activist judge might think that down at the bottom of a door, or even buried in a whole bunch of other small stuff posted on the door, is "plainly visible." Let them know that is NOT a good amendment and will only snare people who are trying to obey the law. Ask that it be replaced with a sign that is AT LEAST 8.5x11" and includes both the gunbusters sign AND the text from -1359 for it to be a legal posting that way we can easily see the sign and it is clear to all who enter. Let them know not to be worried about any lawsuit because the law would not be "vague" since it removes -1305 entirely from the law.

I would love to see the other amendments go also, but the third, I believe, either needs to be removed, or the law not passed at all because it's one step forward, two steps back in confusion (unless you can figure out how to sue John for the posting part being vague...)

I agree, this bill with the current language creates even more confusion and should it become law it will automatically create off limit places due to their current circle slash sign.

If the "substantially similar" language is removed and replaced by a requirement for specific language, there is a reasonablr possibility that the bill so amended could be kicked back to HFWM for a new fiscal note...which timing-wise could kill it outright.

With all due respect, I would rather have some of part of what I want than all of none. If the Senate bill can be adopted by the House and passed quickly, at least the anti's will have to let us know who they are. I can't believe that businesses will start throwing up the signs to help the state, county or local jurisdictions get $500 out of us for missing a sign. If they do, they know they will lose massive amounts of business. If there are problems, we can address them next year, but in the meantime we will have a law in place that both allows me to carry in restaurants that serve alcohol and don't post and identifies the ones who would have to post and let us know they don't want our business. I see no downside to that. I have always heard that the essence of a good negotiation is when both sides come away feeling they've been screwed. Let's get what we can now and go for more later! That's what the left has been doing at least since 1994 and look what it got them--the White House and control of Congress. Why can't we go and do likewise? The way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. This should not be all or nothing. If we don't take some, we will get nothing.

I have to agree with TNReb. I've been a fence sitter on this bill for a while now because I just didn't know what to think. Arguments on both sides were persuasive and had me going from for to against and back again with every argument I read.
But now its showtime and things will soon come to a head.
I certainly do not like some things about this bill, but for me, its better than what we have right now and if the pro gun side can prevail in the next election, then some of these things can be revisited and changes made in the future to clean up what we don't like then.
I think its dangerous for our side to be against this bill and assume that we can come back and get a better bill next year. There is a very good chance that the next Governor is going to be a more gun friendly Governor than the one we have now, but nothing is guaranteed. And if the Democrats can regain the House that is barely in Republican hands now, then you can likely be facing another Naifeh led House and that will be the end of any guns in restaurants that serve alcohol.
So I say, get what we can now, and then, if we can make improvements next year, we can work to change it to be more like what we want.

The chance that the House will pass back into Democrats hands is plausible. I had thought that we would see a huge voter turnout for the mid term elections, but in Madison County at least, the current Primary election turnout is 50% less than the last one in 2008, viewed through early voting numbers. If this trend is any indicator of what the State is going to do as a whole, then we are lost, for many reasons.

The problem is apathy, and for that we deserve whatever is visited upon us.

Senate version passed, with all Amendments intact, will have to see what happens in the House.

The Senate Amendments are bad enough, the Tindell Amendment in the House is a killer. If that does not get rescinded, it needs to be dropped, but maybe they will entertain only the Senate version on the House floor, or get it chunked in conference committee.

Many of our Legislators want to give the impression of being "pro gun" when it suits their needs, and then when it is necessary to appear "pro hospitality" they will take that mantel as well.

Very few have the strength of conviction to always stand for the Citizens rights to keep and bear arms. Those that do should be remembered and rewarded for their efforts to abide by and uphold the Constitution. Those who waffle and vacillate need new employment opportunities.

We of the firearms community are at fault on this issue, we put far fewer dollars into campaigns than do the businesses that supply and sell liqueur. Politics is a numbers game for the most part, a few staunch Patriots find their way to the floor of the House and Senate, most are opportunist who will flap whichever way the winds of money blow.

If the 300,000 HCP holders in the State of Tennessee would donate $50.00 each to the TFALAC, imagine what kind of attention the Legislature would give our interest. If we could get the deer hunters, skeet shooters, and duck hunters to join with us in seeing that a cohesive effort would make our love for the sports which involve firearms solid in their future, we could command the kind of notice necessary to provide for future generations of Tennesseans to enjoy their God given, natural right to have and utilize firearms for whatever reason, instead of huddling fearful and bitter against the onslaught of those who would see us slaves to an ever expanding anti-gun agenda, in this, the Volunteer State.
