Being ignorant of the stances relative to gun issues of most of the members of the House Ways and Means Committee, what are the chances it makes it through that sticking point? A couple I know only too well to hope they will vote yes.

Usually not a problem in FWM unless there is a significant fiscal note.

I see where it is up on the calender of Finance Ways and Means Sub-committee for March 24th. The Amendment is now posted on the TN Legislature site as well.

According to what was posted by tn reb it looks like that takes care of any and all ambiguities just like they said it would.

I have sent the following email to all members of the committee:

Rep. ______________:

I write today respectfully requesting that you vote for HB3125 on March 24th. This bill is very important to those of us who value and protect our right to keep and bear arms. This bill is not, as many would have you believe, about "guns and alcohol" or "guns in bars." It is about honest, law-abiding citizens being able to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Those who do not obey the law will not care one way or the other what you do with this bill. However, we who respect and follow the law do not need to be placed in the position of choosing between protection of ourselves and loved ones or violating the law. Passage of this bill prevents that, and honors your committment to serve the law-abiding citizens of this great state--a committment I know you take very seriously.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and your consideration of my position. Please do the right thing by those of us who take our obligations and responsibilities so very seriously and vote for this bill.

Sincerely,

List of all with addresses sent by NRA-ILA:

Please contact members of the House Finance, Ways, and Means Budget Sub-Committee IMMEDIATELY and respectfully urge them to vote for HB3125 with the NRA-backed amendment. Contact information for the committee can be found below.

Tennessee Firearms Association, Inc.
Legislative Action Committee
Developments Tuesday night and Wednesday morning suggest a manuever by "hospitality" interests designed to kill the bill to fix the restaurant court decision entirely. (HB3125)
The plan seems to be for that interest group (which likely includes Rayburn) to ask the House Finance Ways and Means to seek a 2 week roll on the bill in order to offer amendment(s) that would modify existing licensing laws so that a "bar" or something similar would be a new category that could be idenitified in the firearms laws as an off limits location. This appears to be a delay maneuver since it has never been offered in the last 14 years as an amendment. Its a delay because April is upon us, the legislature will likely be in session only a few more weeks and if the bill is passed and vetoed at this point there is a good chance that it would not be overriden because the legislative session will run out of available days and, in an election year, there will be too many excuses not to come back.
It is critical to call and contact your legislators as well as these committee members and demand that the bill be approved and sent to the floor today. We cannot accept a delay designed to kill rather than improve a bill. Its already a close vote but a 2 week roll could turn out to be lethal.
Wednesday, March 24, the House Finance, Ways, and Means Budget Sub-Committee will hear House Bill 3125.

Senate side should be covered...more support and better alignment there. House FWM could be interesting to see how many different amendments the disingenuous Mr. Naifeh et al try to tag on, including their seemingly pet "local opt-out" provision a la parks bill. His argument that "he didn't know that this bill was going to be debated today" was nauseating at best...is the man incapable of reading and interpreting the agenda for the subcommittee? What a tool.....

If the FWM committee sticks to its scope - fiscal impact - the bill should come out. If it does not, the bill is probably going to have a hard time.

Thank you for the report. I spoke to Mae Beavers last week at the TEA Party rally in Nashville about this bill and thanked her for her support of our gun rights. Also called my representative and state senator. Glad it is passed, now just get the governor to sign it.
