This is the latest (possibly related?) information regarding Sabre that I have been able to get...
Sketchy information at best, but here goes: This raid might (possibly) be related to a situation that arose a few months ago regarding an individual from down in Pulaski, TN. It seems this individual was, or had been, doing some sort of contracting work for Sabre. Based upon what appears to be poor liquidity positioning and poor working capital positioning of Sabre, he was supposedly paid not in cash, but in lower receivers. Some 70 total receivers if the information I have been given is correct. As to whether or not the proper paperwork was performed in the transfer of these receivers, I could not say... But really I can't believe that Sabre would let them get out the door without having the proper documentation in place.
It seems that the guy was building up the lower receivers into fully functional semi-automatic rifles, and was selling them at gun shows in large quantities... The red flag went up when it came to light that he was not an FFL holder, and from there the BATFE decended upon him. (It was probably a case of the guy undercutting another FFL holder's pricing and the FFL holder, knowing the guy was not an FFL holder, alerted BATFE.) Now, as to what the guy might have said or claimed before the BATFE agents... Who knows? But the fact that he had many lower receivers that would have (I feel certain) shown consecutive serial numbers would have been an indication that the receivers had come straight from the factory.
I had an indication from a from someone (in a position to know) that something was propably headed toward Sabre Defense in the form of some BATFE interaction... He also stated that he felt that BATFE would "grandstand" in front of the media to make the situation out to be bigger than it actually is.
I am not an attorney, don't play one on TV, and didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night... But if Sabre Defense did use a "barter" system to pay the guy, and did fill out the proper documentation... Would they have been violating a law? They might have possibly violated a sales tax law, but would they have violated a firearms law?
John, what say you should the above scenario be true?
Stay safe, Stay armed,
Mike
