Carroll County to consider Opting out

TENNESSEE: Carroll County to Consider Opting Out of State Park Carry Law! On Monday, November 9, the Carroll County Commission will consider a resolution that would ban the possession of firearms in county parks, even by those possessing Right-to-Carry permits. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m, in the County Office Building located at 625 High St., Suite 101 in Huntingdon. The meeting will be open to the public and to public comment; however, you must arrive early if you would like to speak. It is imperative that you attend the meeting to voice your opposition to this resolution in an effort to protect your right to self-defense. Just returned from the Commissioner's meeting in Huntington.

The outcome was a tabling of the Resolution by a vote of 18 to 0. I arrived early and met with County Mayor, Kenny McBride. It was apparent that he was personally against the resolution, (a pleasant surprise for a change) but allowed the commission to do their jobs. Comments were taken from any citizen that desired to be heard, although briefly, there being a 2 minute limit per person to speak.

Every speaker was in favor of defeating the Resolution. Upon a call for consideration, the body unanimously voted to table the issue. Per Mayor McBride, no further action on this stated Resolution will take place, and for the issue to come up again will require starting from scratch. In light of the 100% support of the Citizen's right to bear arms on County property, it appears unlikely that such action would take place.
