Does similar public place include parking lot, sidewalk, street, owned by the city?If so,are you being denied your right to self defense, from the time you walk out the door to a park, campground,or any other city owned property?

That is a question that John will have to answer, but in my humble opinion, they can not post the streets. If they try that, I am sure that there will be legal action to follow. If Union City could do that, then Nashville or Memphis could to. The legislation is related to Parks, street are not parks. The MTSA write up that all the Cities and Counties received is just trying to push the envelope with regards to parks grounds that the entities control, I find nothing in the Law that says they can restrict your ability to carry in your vehicle on a City street.

You know, I hope they over-reach like that. It would be the perfect reason to remove the local option in Nashville next year.

Working on it now.

don't forget that the golf courses are a seperate entity as well as city cemetaries that fall under the park and rec's authority.

Too many local governments walk in march step with CTAS and MTAS - both organizations funded with tax dollars - like ducks on a pond. Perhaps, we - as conservatives and firearms owners - need to take a closer look behind the curtain and see exactly who is running these organizations and start talking to legislative officials about whether CTAS and MTAS are influencing state "policy" on things like firearms ownership too much and this whether they need to have their wings clipped.

http://www.mtas.tennessee.edu/public/we ... About+MTAS

Consulting firms specializing in municipal government are nothing new, but there's nothing else in the country quite like MTAS. If you are an official of a Tennessee town or city, MTAS is your resource. An agency of The University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service, MTAS provides technical assistance to cities and towns across the state: their governing bodies, mayors, city managers, city recorders, and city department heads. MTAS consultants will assist in the development of practical and individual solutions for your city.

Established in 1949 by the Tennessee General Assembly, MTAS is funded by a direct state appropriation and a portion of the local share of the statewide sales tax. Almost all of MTAS's services are prepaid; the cities we serve don't get a bill. As the name implies, MTAS is a technical assistance provider with consultants who specialize in most areas of municipal operations. MTAS annually completes more than 1,000 major municipal management projects and provides an average of 6,000 other services each year.

The mission "to provide continuing service to Tennessee municipalities in the form of technical assistance" is approached independently of academic research and teaching. MTAS consultants provide assistance in city halls throughout the state. MTAS also produces publications on a wide range of municipal topics, houses a technical reference library in Knoxville, and serves as a clearinghouse for information on a broad range of municipal issues. MTAS works in cooperation with the Tennessee Municipal League, an organization providing Tennessee cities with unified representation at the legislative level.

MTAS services are available to any incorporated municipality in Tennessee.
