My letter to Speaker Harwell

Dear Speaker Harwell,

Why are you afraid of HB3560? This legislation is very important for the safety of Tennesseans. Time after time, law after law, the liberals have tried to say that legislation such as HB3560 is dangerous and will cause “wild west shootouts.” And time after time, in state after state, statistics continue to prove all of their false fears to be just that: “false fears.” Please do not allow your intelligence to be insulted or swayed by those who will outright lie to prevent this legislation from becoming law.

When you increase the places and the situations where citizens with handgun carry permits can legally carry their guns, you increase the safety of every citizen. That, Speaker Harwell, is the plain fact and truth! Please place your office and support FOR HB3560.

Sincerely,

Ben Burke

According to Article I, Section 26, the text of which appears on the homepage of this website, ALL Tennessee Legislators have the duty to support ALL bills which are pursuant to our State right to BEAR (CARRY) arms for self-defense. Voting in accordnace with the wording of the U.S. and State Constitutions is their according to their oath of office and their first and most important DUTY !!

I agree Ron. Since I sent and posted my original letter to Harwell, there was a new story in Chattanooga's Times Free Press (and posted by John Harris on the TFA Facebook page). http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2012 ... ers/?local

It's disgusting that our state legislators will bow down to the corporate cash and forget what they are elected to do! They may as well carry a sign that says, "Citizens have rights but we will sell them!"

In the matter of our enumerated rights, such as the Article I, Section 26 right to keep AND CARRY arms for self-defense, ALL elected officials must support them. It is NOT a matter of what the majority thinks, but it is their duty according to their oath of office because rights are to be upheld for the minority, yea verily, even the individual. The only power that our State has been delegated, is that the Legislature may" regulate the wearing of arms", that is, how the right to carry is exercised, such as holstered, open, concealed, etc., NOT if, what, when or where. When making laws, the government must obey the law.

Lest we forget the old axiom: Firearms have but two enemies: RUST and POLITICIANS

Rust is easy to understand and protect against, but I wondered [in my youth] just why politicians so seemed to HATE and even feared guns..and finally it came to me: They are basically just folks with big egos and plans..meeting out of town with OUR credit cards. They are not spending THEIR money, but spending OUR money!!! At some point many folks could get tired of the WASTE of their $$$$.....even the weenie-est of us TAXPAYERS might get mad at the WASTE of OUR $$$ and take up arms and throw the bums out. Nuff said.
