Restaurant Bill Veto Override Vote TODAY!
Big thanks to TFA Member Sam Cooper for monitoring the House schedule last night and his e-mail to the House Members below. The vote to override Bredesen's veto of our Restaurant Carry Bill is scheduled for today. Please contact your Rep and tell them you do not accept the message that Bredesen's prejudiced veto sent; that he trusts criminal predictors over Tennessee's responsible, legally armed citizens.
In Liberty,
Pat McGarrity

Pat, still can not get on the forum. I just sent this to all the members of the House tonight. As the House stands in recess and the override vote is scheduled to be taken up tomorrow.
Feel free as usual to pass this on as you see fit.

Representatives,
As the House stands in recess, the issue of the veto of SB3012 by Governor Bredesen is pending as unfinished business.
While we continue to hear this bill mischaracterized as "Guns in Bars", this certainly is not the intent of the bill. Yes, it does remove the prohibition of Hand Gun Carry permit holders carrying in all establishments that serve alcohol for on site consumption, it does place the responsibility where it belongs, with the owner or manager. This give the propriotor the right to decide what happens on their property. We have to accept that there are owners who have long wanted to welcome law abiding citizens into their place of business but have not been given that right.
During the short time following the passage of last years bill, I was able to go into several nice local restaurants that chose not to post a ban. I spoke with those propriotors and was advised by all of them that they welcome the law abiding citizen and know they have nothing to worry about. It should also be noted that during the short time beween passage and being struck down, that Tennessee experienced no incidents involving permit holders in any of those establishments.
We have to remember that the provisions of this bill continue to prohibit consumption of alcohol by persons in possession of a firearm and it retains the right of the owner or managment to post a prohibition if they choose.
With these things in mind, I urge you to OVERRIDE the veto of Governor Bredesen on SB 3012 as has been done in the Senate.
Thank you
