i'm thinking they were absent on purpose, i watched it live, it was a very inclusive speech and being a public speech which does create a lot of pressure,, he did a great job, especially where he defined the word right versus privilege and that the second amendment ensures a right within the bill of rights. not a a privilege ,the government can take away, thank you senator jackson

i just heard the news on the radio and am very excited. i can finally defend my family in restaraunts when i take them out on sunday evenings for our family day out. i am saddened by the fact that there is now a 40 day wait instead of taking effect immediately as it should have since the date for the bill that was passed into law has already passed.

Yes ironic indeed, lets hope like then it signifies a new beginning not only for our state but our nation, many things going unnoticed and being passed into law on the federal level, we need to be aware of the entire picture, the fed is entirely overgrown and controlling and still threaten many of our liberties and rights,we need to be involved in the entire scope of things lest the fed moves in to take over. its ironic how they lord federal money over states, that is actually our money to begin with. I personally dont understand the need for the patriot act to still be in effect in its written entirety, and homeland security? they question the patriotism of law abiding Americans while drug lords and illegals cross the border willy-nilly. Its a proud day to be certain, but it is not the end of fighting for what should be uncontestable rights.

Thanks to all members, this is a great victory and a big first step! Due to public pressure and at least hundreds of E-Mail, at least from me, LOL! We got this thing passed, and it only took 2 Acts of Congress! Whew!
Finally! Now we have to work hard on the parks bill with the same pressure to get it passed! There is no reason to be denied our basic rights of self defense in parks! I know that I am preaching to the choir on that one. Let's let the House and Senate and the Governor how we feel on that one too. Let's keep the momentum rolling!

The Tennessean is quoting Randy Rayburn as stating "We will change this legislation as it affects Davidson County very shortly. We've been working on this a few days in anticipation of the override" in Metro Council."
http://www.tennessean.com/article/20...201/906040348/ Wouldn't that be protected by TCA 39-17-1314?
Local regulation of firearms and ammunition preempted by state regulation — Actions against firearms or ammunition manufacturers, trade associations or dealers. —
(a) No city, county, or metropolitan government shall occupy any part of the field of regulation of the transfer, ownership, possession or transportation of firearms, ammunition or components of firearms or combinations thereof; provided, that the provisions of this section shall be prospective only and shall not affect the validity of any ordinance or resolution lawfully enacted before April 8, 1986.

I wonder how long it will take for the NRA to claim they got it passed.
What got this passed was Naifeh being out as House Speaker and the very active Tennessee gun owners.

Imagine returning from your dining experience to your car, parked in the dark parking lot to find a notice on your windshield:
"Are you being watched?
Violent criminals are evil but not stupid.
The restaurant you just left has a sign on the door proclaiming that patrons may not carry guns to defend themselves.
That tells theives and rapist that this parking lot is a prime hunting territory for victims.
Think about that next time you eat here."
