On May 18, SB0976/HB0716, which authorizes handgun permit holders to carry in state, federal and local parks passed the Senate. It now has to go back to the House because the two bills are not identical.
The Senate bill includes local parks but allows local governments to close the entirety of a local park by a majority vote.

We can only hope that when it goes to conference committee the senate version will again prevail. Should that happen we all need to call the Governor on this one as we've done on the restaurant bill.

So, I guess now we have to lobby for a future bill to strip away local governments' abilities to post their parks. Not surprisingly, Davidson County is already pushing to ban carry in its parks.

We just need to make sure that when we do change it, we don't grandfather existing local regs.

I've been to plenty of parks all over the country, and oddly enough one of the first things that pops into my mind as i look at all the great hiding places and lack of police presence is,,,looks like a prime spot for a mugging.
