HB0962 - Final House Votes from 5/7/09

Postby johnharris » Fri May 08, 2009 1:52 pm

Here are the final House votes on HB0962, the restaurant bill. No real surprises but plenty of opportunity for disappointment. Note that 10 legislators did not vote at all.

The video clip in the House is located at this location. It is worth watching. It is 4 hours and 12 minutes into the session.

For purposes of comparison, here are the House votes from April 6, 2009, when the bill passed in the House with the restrictions.

HB0962 by Todd - FLOOR VOTE: AS AMENDED PASSAGE ON THIRD CONSIDERATION 4/6/2009
Passed

Representatives voting aye were: Barker, Bass, Bell, Borchert, Brooks H, Brooks K, Campfield, Carr, Casada, Cobb C, Cobb T, Coleman, Coley, Curtiss, Dean, Dennis, Dunn, Eldridge, Evans, Faulkner, Ferguson, Fincher, Floyd, Ford, Fraley, Hackworth, Halford, Harrison, Hawk, Haynes, Hensley, Hill, Johnson C, Johnson P, Kelsey, Litz, Lollar, Lundberg, Lynn, Maddox, Maggart, Matheny, Matlock, McCord, McCormick, McDaniel, McDonald, McManus, Montgomery, Moore, Mumpower, Niceley, Odom, Ramsey, Rich, Roach, Rowland, Sargent, Shepard, Shipley, Swafford, Tidwell, Tindell, Todd, Watson, Weaver, Windle, Winningham, Yokley, Mr. Speaker Williams -- 70.

Note that Bone and Cobb J moved from No votes on April 6 to Yes votes on May 7.

Note that During the floor debates on May 7 that Jim Cobb stated (time mark 4:24:12) that he voted against the bill originally but that he was changing his vote due to "an overwhelming response from my constituents" and that he was therefore placing his opinion second to the will of his constituents.

Senate goes into session at 5pm on 5/11. That is the earliest it should come up.

The Senate voted today 24-7 to accept the Majority Report. How long before the actual vote can occur?

If im not mistaken thats it for the voting in the house and the senate. Both houses have now agreed on the exact same language in the bill. I beleive its now off to Govs desk for signature, veto, or become law after 10 days with out his signature.

I'm probably "overposting" this, but:

Tennessee Firearms Association, Inc.
Legislative Action Committee
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have been advised by several sources and have confirmed that the Governor's office is keepinh a "for/against" tally on the gun bill HB0962. It is important to call and to have everyone you know call. We need to send Bredesen a clear message that there are a siginficant number of voters who want to see this bill not just passed into law but SIGNED into law by him!

There are many more gun bills to come down the path and it is important for him to hear from the voters and gun owners of Tennessee because if there are other bills that are closer, we need the extra push.

The Governor can be reached by phone at (615)741-2001 or email Phil.Bredesen@tn.gov.
-------------------------------------

It takes about a minute to place the call & say "I request that the governor please sign house bill 962, the restaurant carry bill, into law."

I've already called, as have at least 2 of my co-workers within earshot.

Go, thou, and do likewise!

Unless I've missed something Gov. Bredesen has signed all of the pro-gun bills that has hit his desk hasn't he?

I don't think he has vetoed any. I do think there were some that went into law without his signature.

Video of Jimmy Naifeh prior to final House vote.

Note his misappropriate reference to Ben Goeser's murder and also his what is apparently untrue assertion that "all" law enforcement and district attorneys oppose this law.
