Firearms task force.

No idea whether or not this will benefit us. I see Todd on there, but I also see Evans. Any idea whether this matters a lick?

We will not know until they do or fail to do something.

What we can see is that its a "caucus" group and not a commission or panel of the legislature. Thus, its a component of the Republican House caucus. It may be that it works to more efficiently streamline which legislators will move forward with which issues. Similarly, it could function like the Naifeh "Constitutional Protections Subcommittee" several years ago to restrain bills that the caucus might find to politically sensitive. Who knows?

My questions are, 1) will the meeting of this task force be announced, 2) will these meetings be conducted in a similar fashion as other meetings such as Summer Study hearings, 3) will citizens, such as us be able to attend and or speak in support of issues of interest?

Would be very interested in that information as well. So far, having contacted a couple of individual members of the group, I have not had a reply. Hoping that is simply summer and they are doing different things than staying in touch with constituents.

That will require a trip to Union City!

I have contacted all of them as well as House leadership and Lt. Gov. Ramsey last week.

So far, not a single one has responded.

Interesting however that those private emails have been shared over to the news media.....

There does seem to have been a blanket thrown over the "task force". Rep. Andy Holt is going to be at Obion Co./Union City meeting on July 28th, then at West Tn Regional on august 11th. Maybe we can get some feel at those two meetings.

Interesting that they have shared your e-mail, but have not responded directly.

Well, I don't subscribe to the Communist Appeal and have been a bit indisposed this last few weeks, (back surgery twice in three weeks). Where have these e-mails been publicised? I would love to see these media outlets. Are they print media or TV/Radio/internet?

" Put simply, we will find out if there are any burdensome restrictions that have been placed on Tennesseans and we will have a constructive dialogue with all interested parties. This effort is about listening, learning and exploring. No one should assume there are any foregone conclusions when it comes to the recommendations we will make to the legislature."

Ok,so has anybody heard when this "dialogue" will take place?

Elegant words those are, Mr. Matheny. But words are just that until brought to life by definitive action. Make us a believer by actions, sir...we've already felt the sting of similarly elegant, but unmistakenly hollow, words.

As of September 14, 2011, no news on any meetings of this announced Task Force - public or otherwise - that are scheduled or may have taken place.

From posts they've made on FaceBook, methinks it would be difficult to hold a meeting, given that a number of the task force members
have been gallivanting all over the country in the last few weeks.

Maybe they're planning on using Skype to meet?

I am beginning to have doubt about this task force. Following this last session of The General Assembly, there was a great deal of criticism leveled at the conservative side of the House concerning their lack of action in the area of pro-gun legislation in light of the promises made. I am about to say that this apointment of a "task force" constitutes nothing more than a "bone" with no meat on it being thrown to the "dog" in order to quiet him down for a time to get us off their backs. The old saying, "action speaks louder than words" comes to mind and we have yet to see any action. Time is starting to run short. We only have rest of September and October before we get into the holiday months prior to the reconveining of the General Assembly in January.

As Richard and John have pointed out, nobody, primarily those on this task force, seems to know much about it. It is beginning to look like a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

Nov and Dec seem like odd months for it to meet, what with the holidays and celebrations going on.

OK, I will go ahead and say I have no expectations any longer that this serves any purpose, at all. I would love to be proven wrong.
