From what I’ve read about this, the rule that went into effect seems to have been “on the books” for a while and that this was the first time folks in NC realized its ramifications.
This seems like a clear violation of the Second Amendment but also a completely redundant law.
I think it appropriate to say that a government entity such as a city or county or state has a the legal authority to ban vehicle travel and/or put a curfew into effect. If we agree that such power rests with a state/local government then “banning” the possession of firearms in a vehicle becomes irrelevant does it not?
Bottom line is that this law needs to be changed as I can imagine some severe circumstances where a person might HAVE to be on the roads (get to a hospital for example) and if someone has to be out during an emergency and is otherwise legally able to carry on their person then they certainly ought to be able to have their firearm with them.
