If you are pulled over by a police officer, are you required to show him your carry permit or tell him you have a carry permit if he does not ask? I'm asking because a friend of mine was recently pulled over and the officer asked for his drivers license. When the officer returned from running a check on the license, he said that my friend should have given him the carry permit along with the drivers license, that a new law required this. The officer then put his hand on his own gun and asked my friend if he was carrying.

So, is there a law that requires a permit holder to automatically show the permit to the officer or tell the officer that you have a carry permit?

As soon as an officer runs your DL, he'll know you have a carry permit. It's part of the same database...and it's the same number.

Talk about timing.

In an article in the Morristown Citizen Tribune about a special HCP class just for women one of the co-instructors, TWRA officer Chris Gann, said "it's important that the instructors for handgun carry permit classes have a background in law enforcement and a full knowledge of laws regulating firearms."

He then went on to say "it's also vital that permit holders know that they have to immediately inform law enforcement officials that they're carrying a weapon if their vehicle or boat is stopped for any reason."
