Although I do not rejoice in anyone loosing their job, ultra anti-gun bigot, cartoonist Bill Day, helped seal his own fate. He repeatedly, inaccurately and hatefully portrayed gun owners in the worst possible way, sparking mass cancellations. Lately, there has been a steady, emotional stream of anti-gun editorials form this publication. The fact that many responsible citizens take responsibility for their own safety, rather than depend solely on government, is something this paper does not agree with at all.
Breaking news from Mike Fleming:
Shakeup At The Morning Publication
Friday 03-20-2009 2:27pm CT
I've just learned that the Morning Publication has laid off numerous big-name reporters and members of the editorial staff, including cartoonist Bill Day.
My sources say that Day, one of the most controversial members of the editorial staff, will be replaced by a syndication of other cartoonists at other newspapers.
Reporters Jimmie Covington is another victim of the economy, as are all of the dismissals. Covington was a 40-year veteran oof the paper. Reporter Mark Watson, head of the Guild, is another one who has been released. Jim Masilek, a reporter in the business section who also have covered sports for the paper, is another victim of the economy.
Frederick Koeppel, well-known for his reporting for a long number of years, has also been released, we are told.
No one at the newspaper would speak on the record.
