Fiscal Summary for SB0035

MINIMAL

Bill Summary for *SB0035 (Cohen) / HB0295 (Kernell)

This bill would change the way presidential electors are chosen. Under present law, registered voters may vote for all of the electors. This bill would require that one presidential elector be chosen from each congressional district and two presidential electors be selected at large. This bill would also change how electors vote. Under present law, electors vote for their party's candidate. This bill would add the requirement that the at-large electors vote for the candidates who received the largest number of votes in the state. The electors in each congressional district would vote for the candidates who received the largest number of votes in each congressional district.

I've read/heard that this type of legislation is being introduced in those states that are primarily conservative. No plans to do this in California or New York of course.
