Armed School Security and TN Law

I know that Tennessee law prohibits the carry of firearms into schools and churches.
And a lot of Tennessee public schools have so called Resource Officers (my friend is one in Nashville).
BTW More than one Metro crossing guard has pointed out to me that the Metro School Security is no longer armed.
I was recently further down south and noticed that the private school I visited had both uniformed and plain clothes armed security officers, not contracted but on the school payroll.
The public school, down the road, had police officers.
Where do our security guards fit in with our law?
Could a school like JP II or DCA have private, armed security under Tennessee law?
