How does one go about requesting an attorney general opinion

Postby redbarron06 » Sat Feb 20, 2016 7:23 pm

I am wondering speficiclly about certain national guard facilities and the law that allows a permit holder to leave his gun in a locked car.

Several locations such as National Guard State Headquarters on Sidco drive, Berry Field, Volunteer Training Sites in Smyrna, Tullahima, Milan, and Catoosa are posted at the entrance IAW state law. I understand that several of the buildings on the sites are legally federal buildings and firearms are prohibited in them. Under the Adjutant Generals (TAG) policy, he is claiming that the parking lots also fall under "the federal building" rules and therefor bans handguns in the cars under that premise. From what I can find in federal law it only covers the building or portion of the building where federal employees work, wich would mean that the parking lot is not prohibited by federal law.

I would also like an opinion as to if the TAG can issue an order or policy that is contrary to state law.

typically contact your legislator or an interested legislator and ask if they will submit the issue for you. You can even offer to write a draft of the question(s) you would like answered.

Thanks John.

Now I just need to find one that will. I don't see the local guy for this area doing it. Any suggestions?

Note please how the fed regs force otherwise honest folk to be disarmed and helpless to, at and from the fed bldgs[wh WE pay for] ..while terrs and criminals are armed and dangerous anywhere...seems backwards to me. This was the situation in Chattanooga TN last summer..an armed muslim terr killed 5 unarmed Americans at military recruiting ofc. BTW..that muslim terr "worshipped" AT A MINI-MOSQUE(w NO sign outside) IN BRENTWOOD TN..A COUPLE OF EXITS DOWN I-65 FREEWAY FROM THE Nashville TN NAT'L GUARD FACILITIES..and right next door to another recruiting station in Brentwood..same strip mall even. The folks in the Brentwood recruiting sta were unarmed as well, but I guess the terr thought it was just too close to his mini-mosque to shoot it up.
