Nashville Chapter is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Meeting time is 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm

Our guest speaker will be . Rep. Elam has served as Mayor of Mt. Juliet and presently serves as the House Member for the 57th District covering parts of Sumner and Wilson counties. She serves on the House Judiciary Committee which hears substantially all firearms related bills.

Arrive early - 5:00 to 5:30 would be good. Eat in the meeting room if possible and if not, get as close as you can. We will try finishing eating by 7:00 in the meeting room to clear out everything but drinks for the meeting if we have a large turnout.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO PAY AT GOLDEN CORAL AS YOU COME IN FOR THE MEETING IF YOU ARE EATING. TELL THEM THAT AT THE CASH REGISTER THAT YOU ARE THERE FOR THE MEETING AND TO APPLY THE "GROUP RATE" WHICH INCLUDES YOUR DRINK.

You do not have to be a TFA member to attend nor do you have to be a resident of Nashville. Everyone is welcome and encourage to bring guests - even spouses.

I want to encourage each of you to bring someone with you to the meeting who has not been to one or been to one recently. There's no cost to come (unless you eat because the meal is on you).

Any report of how the meeting went tonight?

I saw where Rep. Josh Evans said he attended, any discussion of his Bill?

Yes; Josh spoke for a few minutes about his bill. I neither took notes, nor recorded this meeting--sorry.

However, from memory--and others, please feel free to fill in the gaps in my comments--he said the bill is basically dead this session, no matter what happens either in committee, or on the floor. It's been changed considerably from his original intent (which wasn't a bad bill), but in current form, basically does nothing for us (as you already know). If floor amendments are offered to restore the bill to original form, Josh said he would kill it...but I've forgotten why.

Bottom line...it's going to take some time (2-4 years, perhaps) to get what we want, how we want it. As John has noted elsewhere, it took us 16 years to get restaurant carry.

I didn't do Josh's comments justice with this...maybe someone else can.
